Describe your exercise ability.

So, I have not been doing intense exercise since my WLS; just walking about 2-3 miles per day, which is kinda good I suppose? Last night I went to the park and walked over 2 miles (4 miles in my whole day). Lately, I've been having a lot of dreams that I'm able to jog and not feel tired, and I'd wake up feeling slightly disappointed to realize that it was just a dream. I haven't been able to run without feeling tired for about 9 years now (I gained a ton of weight at age 17 because of oral steroids; they made me obsessed with food). So, last night, I had this intense urge to jog. I started jogging and I was able to jog for about a minute without feeling tired. I know that doesn't sound like much, but before, I'd jog for about 5 seconds and feel as if I was about to collapse.

My questions are: Is it easier because I've lost over 65 pounds? Is it easier because I've been walking a bit more? Both?

I mean, I can even walk faster than before. I'm able to walk faster than people in the store and at work, which is a miracle because I'm 5'2'' and I have Hobbit legs. Imagine a chubby little bird speed-walking across the parking lot with it's tiny stick legs. That's me.

I'd love if some of you could share your progress stories on energy and exercise. Thanks so much!

That's awesome! 

I think it's definitely a combination of building your cardio endurance and losing the weight. Here's a link to a question I asked about running a little while ago. Yeah.. As pitiful as it seems, the C25K challenge seems too hard at first. I need to start out slowly. I can definitely run for about 30 seconds, but more than that seems like I'd be overdoing it. I tried running a mile in 12 minutes a few years ago, and I developed runner's knee because of it. The guy who looked at my knee said I overworked myself.

It's not pitiful at all.  C25K is NOT a good program, especially not for new runners, or people with whacked out body mechanics due to obesity.  The "plan" I wrote for Insert Fitness in that other post is much better!

when i started to run i started with two minutes of running and one minute of walking.  Your energy levels do increase as you lose the weight. I hear all the time how do you work and train and I say first of all you have to want to do and enjoy doing it. There are days after you have been out for many years that you may not want to do something but once I get going I am glad that I am doing it and the energy comes. You will find as the weight comes off there is so much you will be able to do that you never thought you could. I ran a 50k race last year and never thought I would ever run. Life is great

Thanks so much for the response! This gives me a lot of motivation. I loved to run when I was a child. But once I turned 15, and hormones started kicking in, I became so invested in High School and relationship drama; the usual, ha! Now I'm 25 and I really want to run. I have dreams about it all the time.

If you really want to run than you will. try doing two minutes and one minute and do it for 40 minutes and build up. I started with 2 and one and now I do 15 and one and I am not a fast runner but I dont care I do it for me.Make your dream come true. Believe in yourself
