Topic: Need to Find Military Info!!!!
Hi everyone, If someone can give me a clue on how I can obtain my uncle's Army Service Number (ASN) , I would be greatful. I want to get my uncle's military record, but without the ASN, I am stuck. I recently wrote to the VA Hospital in Westwood to get his medical file. I sent in copies of my state id, my uncle's death certificate (both pages) and a request in writing asking. The VA's reply was that they could not release any information under the FOIA because I was not next of kin or listed somewhere on the death certificate. I called the VA Hospital to talk to the person in charge of the records and explained why I wanted the medical file. I told the person that all I really wanted was the ASN so I could obtain the military file. They told me that since 9/11 , they have to protect deceased veteran's privacy. WTF????? I told the person at the VA that I can prove that all of my uncle's relatives are dead, and that I am the next of kin. The VA's response to my statement was that even if I could prove that all of my uncle's closest relatives were dead, I still would get denied access to his file. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Kim

Don't give up! After years of searching, I found the records on my dad's brother and sister in Denver. My daddy was not put up for adoption, being the oldest, he went to stay with an uncle. Just last year, his brother's kids contacted me after seeing a post on Rootsweb. Good luck!
    Topic: RE: Can't find info!!!!
Hi Krista, It's been a long time sense you wrote this post so I'm hoping you are still here.... Don't give up the search for your grandmothers birth family.... I have done tons of research for adoptive members of my family and we have recovered one uncle's family ... he was already dead...... one step grandmother..... and one of her 3 children she gave up..... and I just recently helped a man write a book for his father who had been adopted......... I provided all the research to extend his family back to when they came to the united states in 1749... all he had was one generation. Now His 88 year old father knows where he came from ... and He cried like a baby at Christmas time when the book was presented to him. 20 years of my research made this man cry ... so it was worth all the effort. It's a personal choice to do research for ones loved ones. Please don't let outsiders tell you .....it's a waste of time. It's not, and someday it will pay off for you or someone else you haven't even met yet. Good Luck to you, and happy hunting. Penny

I'm just trying to help others who want help, While helping me pay my bills while i'm unemployed.
    Topic: Never posted here before.
Hi All. I've never posted to this board before,,and I'm typically a lurker on the other boards as well. I love researching my family's genealogy. I'm currently researching the Davis and McKenzie families of McNairy Co and Wayne Co, Tenn. I've pretty much run into a brick wall when it comes to my ggggrandfather William Burdett Davis who married a Lucy Smith. Maybe someone here is also researching this same family ?? Happy New Year to everyone.
