    Topic: Edmonton Golf
Hi- I was searching for golf courses in Edmonton Alberta and came across this site www.edmontoneducates.com about the city and it says that the city has the oldest municipal golf course in Canada (1907) - the Victoria Golf Course. Has anyone been there and is it worth the trip?

You were right, I did not buy blades, but now am the proud owner of Titleist 704.CB cavity backs, nice size, smaller than the larger top flights that I was using, now I am getting some movement on the ball and the clubs look like what I used to use. Hitting it much straighter, too. Thanks for the input!

Blades--No way! My son is a scratch golfer and he thought he should put his cavity backs away and he bought some blades. Big mistake. The thing about cavity backs is that they are a little more forgiving--well actually a lot more forgiving. 9 or 13 handicap I would bet that you may regret it if you switch. Lots of the pros are playing with some form of cavity back. Love my hybrids! Best golf purchase I ever made. You didn't ask me--but I thought I'd offer up my experience--lol.

I hear ya, I just bought a Titleist 3 iron hybrid, 22 degree. I got at a pro shop at 40% off and with a free round thrown in at a resort course (Bodega Bay Golf Links) to boot. I bought it after I played (had an 84) then I could not wait until the next day to go to the range and try it out. My regular 3 iron went about 180 the hybid about 190 and straight. I currently using a set of top flight regular shaft cavity backs, and am looking to go to blades, probably a dumb move, too. I am not hitting ball as far as I did in my youth (now 54) but it is a lot straighter! I started back at golf after a long lay off (ten years) then 9 months later I decided on the surgery and did it 6/7/05 RNY. My handicap went up! from a 9 to now a 13, go figure , 130 lbs and higher handicap! Golf is and was my salvation!

Hey Dave--on't think I ever realized it was you who I had responded to on this board. Must have been before you got your picture up. How cool is that--hitting them long and straight! I'm in a little golfing slump right now. Nothing some time at the range wouldn't cure. Hope your weather warms up and you get to play again soon.

Dave, Congrats on your new clubs and on your 8 handicap!! I'm hoping come spring I see a big improvement in my game. I'm saving up for the new Taylor made R5 driver; a couple of girls on my league have it and it's incredible! Keep hitting them straight! Sue McD

I finally broke down and got a new set of Taylor Made Racs. I love them. I've been hitting the same set of Ping Zings for about 12 years. After surgery, my body changed and while my game went away for about a month or two, I decided it was a good time to start fresh with a new set and mindset. Well, I'm killing them and they're straight. I'm down to about an 8 handicap although now that cold weather has come upon us, I haven't gotten to play them but about 10 times. I'll try to keep up with how they're doing (not me but the clubs) in the future. Dave

That is the best thing ever, golf was made for walking, I had also never got to experience that before surgery, awesome! Good for you.

Hey Sue, my game and swing have changed so much since surgery, I am still trying to find my swing. Used to be I just swung around my tummy, now I have no reference, it is all over the place. The one thing that is awesome is that I make a full shoulder turn, very good feeling. Good to see this board with something on it; I tried to get it going about a year ago (All the old blank postings are mine) but just not enough interest, that suprised me. This Sunday, I will be walking a course I would NEVER have attempted even nine holes before, I cannot wait. Take care, Mike

I am 1.5 years out of surgery and my game gets better every day. My handicap has dropped from a 22 to a 14, but have had several rounds in the 70's including one 75. I have even shot my first ever even par 9 hole round. I attribute this to three things: The loss of 125 pds, the lessons I took from a great teacher, and my chiropractor (who I thought was a scam artist until my back hurt so bad I was willing to try anything).

I walked all 18 holes yesterday, something that I have never done before! I shot a 102 which certainly isn't my best score...but I walked and it was cold out! I just can't wait to take more lessons in spring. Hope you are all getting out there and having fun. Hit them straight! Sue McD 306/228/150?

    Topic: How's everyone's game?
Hi fellow golfers, Just wondering how your game has improved. My game didn't make significant improvement this summer but I'm expecting great things for next year! I had trouble as my body, and energy levels, changed so rapidly. I am starting to hit the ball more consistently and plan on taking more lessons in the spring when I've lost a lot more. I'm golfing 18 today but it's 58 degrees and I don't like golfing with the bulk of sweatshirts and jackets. Of course I'll still go! Take care everyone and hope you're hitting them straight! Sue McD 306/228/150?

i just found this board. very interesting. i am three weeks or so from a revision for a failed vbg in 1988. a friend came up to oregon last friday and he challenged me to a contest. his strokes to a green i had to put into the hole for a buck a hole. i cleaned his wallet for 6 bucks. promised to give him a rematch after the surgery and the weight loss. the course here is really nice. i played to a 7 in my youth oh so long ago. really want to play again. thanks for your encouraging post dave

Hey David, How are you doing after your surgery? It's 10/2/05 so you should be out golfing again. Today is a beautiful day in Chicago, my husband and I have a 3pm tee time for twilight. I'm going to walk the course which I haven't been able to do in a long time! Hope you are doing well and hope the golf Gods are good to you! Sue McD

Lynda: Yes I've gotten into the 70's (a 77 and several 80's). I love the summer even though it's very hot here because my shoulders are bad due to wrestling, football and a bad car wreck about 10 years ago. I play during the winter but the heat of summer allows me to not feel it so bad for several days after every round. Good luck and fairways and greens! Dave

Topic: RE: Gosh! Is everyone out playing?
Sue: I still drink a protein shake at the turn every round. I figure as hot as it's been here and with me not eating too much, I need to drink water all of the time and protein for energy. Keep hacking away like we all do and the scores will get lower. I think if you play 3 times a week or more, your score has to go lower just because your swing gets better. Dave
