I was just wondering if the protein drinks for my preop diet. Actually help you shink you liver or Is it  just the restricted calories.  Because after  11 day I am so sick of all the shakes. Never thought , I could get sick Chocolate or Vanilla.  Bought the Orange was totally digusting. Wasted thirdy dollars.   So  I been drinking chicken and beef broth. It the only thing been able to stand.
After the third day of the diet.  Only been drinking  one shake a day instead of three.  Replace with broth.  But It is 5 days until surgery.  Should get back on the shakes to actually help shink the liver.  Does anybody know if really helps or is or is just away for doctors to make money.

Protein shakes contain no ingredients to shrink your liver. Your liver will shrink on it's own due to the fact that you are not eating fatty foods and carbs. The protein is for your nutrition and has nothing to do with the Dr's making money. If your Dr. recommends that you have three protein shakes per day then I suggest you follow his advice. Look into the chicken broth flavored protein made and sold by Unjury or even one of their unflavored proteins. You still potentially have many months with protein shakes, don't give up yet.

I was referred to 2 different liver specialist and i told them both about the surgeon wanting me to do a 2 week liquid diet to shrink the liver. After i was looked at weird, They both told me that a liquid diet will not shrink the liver, they shrink the stomach. so i dont know now. I guess i'll listen to them since they were both in fact highly ranked dr's in their specialty. weird

Virtually all mordily obese people have fatty liver syndrome, in which the liver becomes enlarged due to fat deposits.  Fatty liver syndrome is actually dangerous and can lead to non-alcoholic cirrosis of the liver.  The enlarged liver also gets in the way when doctors try to perform bariatric surgery.  As a previous poster indicated, the purpose of the liquid diet is shrink the liver by depriving it of fat.  I was on a pre-op liquid protein diet for 13 days prior to my surgery (actually a few more than required by my physician, based on my weight).  Not only did I lose 12 pounds in the 13 days, but my surgeon remarked on how well my liver had shrunk.  Having seen my xrays prior to that, he was absolutely able to determine that it had shrunk.  And you do need the protein, because healing from surgery takes a lot of energy.  Without the protein, your energy will be sorely depleted by the time you emerge from surgery.
