a little discouraged....

Hey guys,
I dont want to whine but I am a little concerned with my weight loss these last couple of weeks. I started on regular food a 2 weeks ago today and have only lost 1 lb in those 2 weeks! I have been trying to keep my portions at about 3/4-1 cup of food. I can eat a lot without getting full right now because of the lack for restriction. I have been eating more protien now then i have in my whole life and have been drinking about 60 oz of fluid a day. I admit, I have not excercised much at all, just walking the dog but I am joining a gym tomorrow. Anyone else have this problem out of surgery? I was losing  way more weight even on the pre-op diet....just a little bit discourged. I feel like I am eating like less than 1/2 the calories I was eating before surgery and not drinking soda or juice or anything so I thought I would still be losing weight at a good pace. Any advice/words of wisdom?

Yes. Please put your scale away... (kidding)

You need to focus on eating.. your healing process and stick to your dr's plan.

Drink your water as well... the pounds will come off but you need to focus on the lifestyle change or the long haul not just the scale... you might not see a drop right now and boom in two weeks 10 pounds... it happens.. happened to me.

Things get better as you get restriction

Michelle
I so feel the same way.  I am looking forward to my appointment on Feb. 10 and praying for a fill!

Don't beat yourself up. Things could be worse, like in my case. I'm almost a year and a half out of surgery, and I've  lost only 23 pounds.

I also went through the plateau stage after surgery. I lost 35 pre-op and only 15 since surgery on Dec 10th...It is frustrating, but as the other girls said, you need to heal right now. I have been told the pounds don't drop until after your fills...Hang in there, it will work.
What A Exciting Journey This Is~

Michelle-I was banded on 12/21 and had my first fill today. Unfortunately, we have to be patient with the LB process-weight loss is a deliberately slow especially in the beginning. The first 6 weeks is a healing period not much wt loss. The last 2 weeks my scale kept moving up and down 1-2lbs lbs  despite eating 1/2-3/4c portions and drinking 70-80oz fluids a day and being good so its totally normal and frustrating once we start eating real food to not lose more at this stage. Be positive- at least you lost 1 lb! I didn't. You might try drinking more fluids since its fluids that eliminates the fat breakdown from our system. I also figured out that my real 1/2 c of food had more sodium than shakes and soft food and I was retaining water so when I get back to real food again I am going to monitor my sodium intake.
I just hope I have some restriction now with a total of 5 cc in my  14 cc band and that helps me lose some weight. Janet
Thanks for all the support....its nice to know other people are going through or have been though the same thing. Isn't it easy to get down on ourselves after years of failed wt loss?

It will happen, you have to be patient. Follow your surgeon's plan for amount of food and exercise etc.  I wanted to add that I waited for 3months to get my first fill.  I lost 31 pounds prior to a fill.  So it's possible to do that for some people.  All of my fill info is below.  I eat the portion sizes that I'm supposed to and I have never felt "full".  We are supposed to feel satisfied, not full.  I have never PB'd, vomited or gotten stuck.  I'm happy with my weight loss and I can eat foods that give some people problems.  But I just got another fill, so I will be very careful and really concentrate on the rules.

Your body is healing, give it time.  You will do great!
TOTALLY NORMAL!!

Your body is in a bit of a shock from the rapid loss and it's taking what you are eating and saying "this is the only energy I am going to use today and I'm gonna keep all this fat JUST IN CASE this food source stops".  I went through it and wanted to kick my body in the you know what... but it will pick back up.  TOTALLY NORMAL.  Just do what you know you are supposed to do and let your body heal.  Remember weight loss is on the avg over the long term, which means you won't loose every week and those big losses have to avg out somewhere ;o)
