Weight Loss Surgery Directory

This maybe a crazy question but?

Hello All, I am just curious to what exactly are slider foods I heard the term used several times but I am still uncertain. And do slider foods contain alot of calories?
Slider foods are anything that are easily eaten and don't keep you full. Ice cream and chips, for example. And typically they are high calorie. But what slides for you may not slide for me; however, there are a lot of common foods that slide most of the time.

Thanks A lot for explaining it to me.

Katy says it well! Anything which turns to total mush and so does not stay above the band for any time. But, as she says, this (bizarrely) can differ for different people. For example, yoghourt is not a slider food for me, it is for many, if not most, people.

Common ones are things like chips, soft cake, cookies, ice cream.

Not all slider food are high cal - for example soups are a slider for most peopel but are not necessarily high cal.

Trail; and error, i am afraid to find yours!

good question! I didn't know what that term meant either.

I have a follow up question that hopefully someone can answer.

Is it possible to chew your food too much that it will slide down too quickly? It just seems like we want to have the food to be small enough to not get stuck...but not so small that it goes through the band right away...

Also, are protein shakes considered "sliders?" they are liquidy...or are they generally think enough that they stay up top and keep you full?

Thanks!
My dr has never cautioned me on chewing food to bell.  If you are eating dense proteins first than it will slow the movement of food past your band.  As for protein shakes, many people have noted on here that they do not keep them full for very long.  That being said I am just over 2 months post op and a 8 oz protien shake (8oz skim milk + scoop of 24-32g protein mix) still keeps me full for 3-4 hours.  I still drink them for breakfast on work days as I rarely have time to sit down and eat slowly.  Its one of those things that is different for everyone.
