Hello, My name is Stacey Coats and I am a recent newbie to the lapband surgey. I am seeking some motivational support and encouragement as I know that this is a tough journey for me. I don't have a lot of support in my family because of the lapband. My family thinks since I had the lapband they think it is more like cheating rather than doing it myself. It is a lot harder than they think. I am desperate and always feel like I am failing in this area. I would appreciate any and all help thanks so much.

Welcome Stacey.  I don't get a lot of support from my family either.  This is not the easy way out, it takes a lot of work.  Congrats on your surgery.  Michelle.

I'm with you! About a month behind. Got home from the hospital this week, still on clear liquids. My family also feels I should have been able to do this without surgery. Seek out others! My close friends and especially my husband are very supportive. Aim normally very active and this hanging around for two weeks on liquids is driving me crazy!

But, I too will get through this part and we will make it work! I have found the people on this site to be very supportive and provide great information.

Thanks SueBee01!  I am glad you have the special friends and husband supporting you. You can do this. We both made the first step in this journey and we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Congrats on your surgery and to a healthier you!

Hi Stacey,

I don't have support from my family either, which has caused me some set-backs. I have learned that it is my responsiblity to make this work, 'cause if I leave it up to my hubby we'll be eating cheesesteaks and McDonald's everyday!

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you the band is a fix all.  If you really want to you can "eat around the band", but why go through all of this just to cheat?!  Just remember why you did this and try to keep on track.  There are a lot of supportive wonderful people on here to lean on. There's also a couple not so nice people - just ignore them ).

Good luck with everything and keep in touch!

Oh my husband and children always want to eat junk food, which is terrible for me. I have little will power, but I sure am trying to change my mindset. Thanks Lisa for the support and motivation!

I am so sorry that you do not have support from your family, but please do not let this derail you in your efforts to improve your health.

I have discussed this exact issue here: http://lapbandgalsjourney.blogspot.com/2010/12/easy-way-out. html

AND here: http://lapbandgalsjourney.blogspot.com/2011/02/would-you-lik e-gooey-fudgy-chocolatey.html

I personally think that being fat was easier than being banded.

Starting Weight: 256
Goal Weight: 145
Current Weight: 141
Check out my blog: LAP-BAND Gal
BANDED: 10/20/09

I've maintained my weight loss for over one year now!

I had lapband one year ago.  I encourage you to closely follow the diet supplied to you by your surgeon/nutritionist.  I did at first and rapidly lost weight, then I started cheating a little here and there and stopped loosing. My husband is very excited about my loss, but wants me to loose more.  He thinks he is being supportive, but just being with him and his food needs makes my eating very difficult because he loves all of the things I shouldn't have.  I haven't told other friends and family because I didn't want to hear their negative comments.

I have a friend who hasn't eaten any sweets in six months and she has lost twice the weight I have.  At meals I do okay because I can't eat much, but snacking is my downfall.

Don't get discouraged, just get stubborn about following your diet and not letting others and their needs interfere with what you need to do.

People who haven't had the surgery have no idea how hard it still it.  I suggest you look for a support group, join it and be very active.

Welcome to the group.  I was just banded on 12/1/11.  I do have family support, but never told my close friends and in-laws that I was going to do this until a few days before I went in for my procedure.  I just didn't want them to judge me, ask me 20 thousand questions or attempt to change my mind.  Because of my situation, I needed this surgery to loose a lot of weight quickly.  I need a hip replacement and the lighter I am the more successful the surgery could be.

I look at it as my LAP Band is just a tool to help me eat better, be more aware of what I'm eating and when and to get me responsible for ME.  I'm down just about 40 pounds and fairly happy with the success, although I did think it would go faster.  And YES, I do cheat.  I have to satify my sweet spot occasionally and I've found some wonderful 100 calorie treats such as Skinny Cow fudgicles, Keebler 100 calorie chocolate cookie pkgs, and even the Special K fruit bars.  You can do some cheating, but it's moderation, like have a little today so I can have a little again in another day or two.  I also reward myself...by buying clothing not food!  A shirt, blouse or pants a week!  You'll be amazed what that simple thing does for your confidence and continued success.  People will notice, compliment you...it's a big high!

Check in here often.  You'll find some nice, knowledgeable people to help you along the bumps in the road!
