Topic: RE: 8 Years Out!!!

Hi All,

Looking for some support.  It has been awhile. I had my surgery 8 years ago on Jan 8th 2009 and in 15 months I lost 116lbs.  Then the creep started to happen.  Just 10lbs at first and I was OK then 10 more and so on until I've gained back 65lbs.  No reason for the gain, I just took my eye off the ball. Stopped doing the work.  I remember being told at a meeting by someone   "Who we were is who we will always be if we forget to keep working at being different."

I got back on track and on Jan 9 2017 I pretended I had surgery and started the 2 week liquid diet.  Followed the post surgery diet to the letter which is helping me kick the sugar and Carb addition.  I happy to report as of Monday I lost 17lbs.  Yes 17lbs in 1 week.  It was hard.  VERY HARD.  I was very VERY hungry but I kept with it and it is getting better.  I am grateful that my band still works.   I will do this until this coming Monday then I start week 3 or phase 3 puree diet for two weeks then stage 4 soft solid foods for two more weeks.  I am hoping that this will give me the weight loss to motivate me to keep going.  This is a commitment I make to myself.  Getting back on track and getting back to feeling well is what it is all about.

Sometimes I forget why I had this surgery.  I sit on my laurels and feel that "Oh I look much better then I did before so no need to "work at it"  then the creep starts to happen and before you know it your up.  I am glad that my band is there waiting for the break to be over so it can come back on stage and do its job.

Well it has been a week and 1 day and I am using my band to it fullest.  It works it really works.  Down 8lbs and still working at it.  Butterfly618 is feeling happy :-D

I never got into wonderland.  I never was the 170 that I was was hoping for when I first had my surgery.  But the weight came off and I was moving into the smaller lbs and I was happy.  I felt beautiful.  People saw me as beautiful and I stopped worrying about my weight and thought I didn't need to worry because the band was there to control me. But then I realize something If you don't keep focused old habits return. Inch by inch, pound by pound.  I stepped on the scale and I was back into the 240's. If I didn't do something the 250 260 270 and so on were just around the corner.  I knew I needed to stop myself before it got too far.  I up 29lbs from my lowest.  I came back to the boards.  I started to journal food and thoughts.  I made that dreaded doctors appointment.  I took out the pamphlets that I received when I started this journey.  Got back to basics. So what did I learn... I learned YOU CAN NEVER EXPECT THIS BAND TO DO ALL THE WORK.  You have to participate because who are were is who you will always be. You just pushed it into a smaller size and it is waiting for the moment when you take you eye off of the job to step up and cause trouble.  I am proud that I got back on track before I gain 50lbs 75lbs or even 100lbs.  Back on track and helping myself to a healthy me with my band.

It has been so long since I felt so empowered.  I can back here 2 weeks ago after almost a year of being MIA,  You all opened your arms and welcomed me back as if I was a lost child returning home.  You replied to my posts.  Inspired me to get back on track.  You reminded me why I did this in the first place.  You helped me to start over.  To step up and be responsible for my actions and my band.  I have to tell you I have been back to writing in my journal thought and feeling, posting on OH responding to posts and helping those on this board you I feel I can give advice to.  I am 5lbs down and 5lbs closer to that girl in my avatar take on my 50 birthday on year ago. Thank you Thank you for helping me get back on track~butterfly618

17 Healthy Eating Quotes to Keep You Motivated

Quotes are an excellent source of motivation and inspiration, especially when it comes to changing your lifestyle habits. Below you'll find 17 great healthy eating quotes to remind you why the changes you are making are so important.

"The trouble with always trying to preserve
the health of the body is that it is so
difficult to do without destroying the
health of the mind." - G.K. Chesterton

Do your healthy lifestyle changes seem overwhelming and stressful? If so, you may be trying to do too much, too fast. Take it easy on yourself. Make positive changes, yes. But also remember that being healthy is about much more than what you eat - it's about the way you live your life.

"One should eat to live, not
live to eat." - Moliere

We all love to eat, and many of us equate healthy eating with boring, tasteless meals. Thankfully it doesn't have to be that way. It's very possible to eat foods you truly love while also improving your health and losing weight. Experiment with healthy food options and find some healthy foods that you really enjoy eating.

"Eat right, exercise regularly,
die anyway." - Author Unknown

This humorous quote reminds us that maybe we don't have to take healthy eating quite so seriously. Yes, eating healthy and exercising is important and may extend our longevity by quite a lot. More importantly, healthy lifestyle habits help improve the quality of our lives so that we live more completely and passionately than we would with poorer health.

"In order to change we must be sick and tired
of being sick and tired." - Fannie Lou Hamer

Being sick and tired of being sick and tired is a great motivator in finally changing your eating habits for good. When you see a clear correlation between what you eat and the state of your body, it's almost impossible to keep going with destructive habits for long. Eventually you get so tired of feeling rotten that you'll do whatever it takes to improve your habits and feel better.

"A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good
for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult
than all the medicine and psychology in the
world." - Paul Dudley White

Eating right and exercising regularly does wonders not only for your body, but also for your mind. When you feel good physically, you are happier. Many people seek happiness in pills and therapy - when positive lifestyle changes could easily give them the sense of empowerment, strength, freedom and joy that they're really seeking.

"If you don't take care of yourself, the
undertaker will overtake that responsibility
for you." - Carrie Latet

Eventually we all reach a point where we cannot remain in denial about our unhealthy habits any longer. When you truly understand that every destructive action has a severe consequence, you suddenly find the courage and determination to change your habits for good.

"Nothing is more fatal to health than an
over care of it." - Benjamin Franklin

Have you ever started a new lifestyle improvement program and tried to change every little thing all at once? Needless to say, this is an easy way to get overwhelmed fast and give up. Improving your health through diet and exercise can be done one step at a time, one meal at a time. Don't try to be perfect - just keep doing your best.

"Those who have no time for healthy eating
will sooner or later have to find time
for illness." – Edward Stanley

Healthy eating is not just about maintaining a healthy weight - it affects your total state of well-being. Poor lifestyle habits have been linked to endless numbers of diseases, many of which can be prevented by eating right and exercising.

"Preserving the health by too strict a regimen is a
wearisome malady." - François Duc de la Rochefoucauld

Another great quote about being a little more relaxed and flexible about your healthy eating program. You'll be much more likely to stick to your new healthy habits if you take a gentle, gradual approach.

"You don't get ulcers from what you eat.
You get them from what's eating you."
- Vicki Baum

Stress is a major cause of poor health and contributes to the formation of excess body weight, especially in the abdomen. While improving the quality of your diet is still a good idea, keep in mind that the thoughts you think also have a powerful effect on your body. While you're taking care to put healthy foods in your body, also take care to put healthy thoughts in your head.

"To avoid sickness eat less;
to prolong life worry less."
- Chu Hui Weng

Our modern world has become obsessed with huge portions; have you noticed that? Eating less is one of the easiest ways to start losing weight and improving your health. That doesn't mean you have to starve - just don't stuff yourself to the gills when you eat a meal or snack! Take less than half of the amount of food you think you can eat, and you may be surprised to realize that you feel completely satisfied. Not stuffed, but no longer hungry either. Oh, and put your mind on the same reducing diet when it comes to worry and negativity. Talk about feeling lighter inside and out!

"The body is the soul's house. Shouldn't we
therefore take care of our house so that it
doesn't fall into ruin?" - Philo

Many of us start health plans because we want to look better. We focus on being able to wear a certain size clothing, or see a special number when we step on the scale. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but sometimes looking a little deeper can help us stay committed to our new healthy habits. Taking good care of our bodies also helps us live richer, more meaningful, and even more spiritual lives.

"He who takes medicine and neglects to diet wastes
the skill of his doctors." - Chinese Proverb

The world is full of people who are taking dozens of medications unnecessarily. Oh, the medicine is definitely necessary to manage their health conditions - except that many of those conditions would disappear if the people would simply change their habits. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, sleep apnea, heart disease - many of these ailments are directly related to obesity and resolve themselves with a change in lifestyle habits.

"I tell my retreat students that they need to
remember two things: to eat what they want when
they're hungry and to feel what they feel when
they're not." - Geneen Roth

Emotional eating is a huge problem for many people who are overweight. Following a traditional diet for these people may not be enough because they are in the habit of "stuffing their feelings". If this resonates with you, start exploring ways you can better express your feelings rather than trying to smother them with food. If necessary, seek out a qualified therapist who can help guide you.

"Health and cheerfulness naturally beget
each other." - Joseph Addison

When you have a positive attitude, taking good care of your health becomes much easier. And when you feel good physically, being cheerful is also much easier. It's all connected.

"The wise man should consider that health is
the greatest of human blessings. Let food
be your medicine." – Hippocrates

As previously mentioned, food really can be a form of medicine, bringing the body back into balance and clearing health problems. If you want to turn this insight into an art, start researching the power of nutrition in health and healing and apply what you learn in your own life.

"Tell me what you eat and I will tell you
what you are." - Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

You are what you eat! That doesn't mean you'll turn into a cheeseburger if you eat too many of them. But it does mean that your body will reflect the QUALITY of the foods you eat most often. Eat a lot of junk food, and your body will feel and look junky. Eat foods rich in vitamins and nutrients, and your body will glow with vibrant health.

I thought it was time to put a face to Butterfly618.  This was taken for my 50th birthday last year.  19lbs thinner but I don't mind.  Maybe if I see it here as often as I visit, it will motivate me to keep on track.

This weekend was trying.  Went to a BBQ and the host would not take no for an answerer to having a drink. Every time my glass was empty he would say do you want an other and I would tell him "No I'm good"  He would get mad and say what is it with the "good" crap and make me an other when I would drink it slow he would say drink up.  Damn I had 3 drinks and I know that effected my weight loss this week.

3 years out and I take NSAID almost every day of with PPI because I have RA.  All is well.  When I went for the surgery I was told that Lab band was the best choice because of the NSAID if I had a problem it could be fix.  No so with the other weight loss surgery operations.  Anyway that was what my RA doctor said and my surgeon.

Topic: RE: Perception is Everything!!!
Releasing Those Pesky, Negative "Truths"

Are you aware of the habitual thoughts that keep your excess pounds firmly rooted in reality? Most people are not aware of these thoughts, but discovering what they are can be incredibly helpful in transforming them for the better.

Resistant thoughts go something like this:

- I'm so sick of being tired.

- I'll never lose this weight.

- Why can't I be naturally thin?

- I'm cursed with a slow metabolism.

- No matter what I do, I can't lose weight.

- It's really hard for me to lose weight.

- I'm powerless to do anything about this.

- I'll never get back to my college weight.

As you can see, none of these thoughts are really horrible; they simply reflect a solid set of beliefs that keep reinforcing the reality of an overweight condition.

The problem is that these kinds of thoughts will keep running through your mind, over and over again, all day long. They are like a constant recording playing in your head, and as long as they are running the show, you will remain "stuck" in the reality of being overweight.

To discover your own dominant resistant thoughts, consider the kinds of things you say to yourself on a regular basis regarding your weight. "I'm getting old; exercise is too hard; food travels straight to my hips . . ." Make a list of the most common "negative" things you say and think about your body and your weight.

Then, create a few contradictory statements that you can recite throughout the day.

-
I find it easy to achieve my ideal weight

- M
y metabolism is fast and efficient

-
I love moving my body

Be sure to say the statements with a sense of excitement or other positive emotion. Saying them flatly without feeling won't change anything - speak them with conviction, as if they really are true.

Remember that at first, you will not believe your new statements - you will feel like you are lying as you speak them. But over time that disbelief will fade and you will start feeling better about it and eventually, come to believe it - which means your physical cir****tances will shift to reflect your new belief! :-)

Today's affirmation:

Perception is EVERYTHING!
