It has been a bit since we have talked in depth about coffee...Saw the subject on the weigh in thread.
This is what I enjoy.  I like McDonalds Coffee.  I go there about every 3 days.  I will get a cup...Add small amounts of sugar, Splenda, Equal, and milk (yeah, I know I'm strange).  I will drink 2/3 of a cup, get a free refill and take it home for the next 2-3 days.  Their coffee doesn't have a bitter aftertaste that I find in most coffees.  Many people who are post WLS find that when they go back to coffee, they find it very appealing...The buzz, the taste.  I could take it or leave it pre op.  Now I really look forward to it in the morning.  Some post ops will put their protein powder in their coffee.  So how do you like your coffee??
Now one word of warning...If you are a new post op, please wait to get the OK from your doctor to proceed with this stuff.  Remember that you need to allow your bowels to heal from the surgery, and coffee is very hard on your system.  The other thing to be aware of is that coffee is a diuretic.  As you are dropping the weight quickly, you may be able to get in all the liquids you need.  Taking into account the diuretic effect on your body from coffee, you may need those liquids you are depleting with the stimulant (coffee, black tea, chocolate).  Again dehydration is the # 1 reason WLS people reenter the hospital...
So how do you take your brew??

I'm still preop but I stopped the coffee.  I fight blood pressure and I just have not made the plunge for decaf- thats for you older guys.  I love coffee. Splash of milk and a sweetner, flavored or add a pack of sugar free hot choc. Expresso shot of milk love it.  I stay away from the gas station cappacinos they are very high sugars.  I am hoping I can return to a little fully leaded coffee in  the next year or so otherwise I guess decaf will be my destiny.

I am so addicted to coffee! I prefer Dunkin Doughnuts or 7 eleven coffee. Once in a while I switch it up and get hot tea. Honestly, I have to cut down because I'm back to a few cups a day. I didn't have a sip of coffee for probably the first six months but once I opened that door forget about it.

I drink hot coffee black, but usually not every day. When I have to use my wife's weak breakfast blend (I like it strong)I add a tsp. of instant espresso powder to kick it up. I love iced and drink one medium a day on average. I put a small amount of whole milk in that and usually ask for dark roast or an espresso shot. I should probably try decaf because I drink it for flavor and hydration, not the buzz.

For me, it's Sugar in the Raw and cream (or alternatively CoffeeMate), but never low fat milk or off-brand creamers. I am now allowing myself perhaps one or two cups of caffeinated coffee each morning, but for the rest of the day, it's decaf. And no matter what the coffee may be, it needs to be extra HOT. I will not drink lukewarm or old coffee. My Keurig brewer is my best friend.

Ken, I hear you about wanting my coffee hot!!  The microwaves at work and at home are my friends too!  I've heard the Green Mountain (I think breakfast blend) Keuig is good...Have you tried it and do you like it??

Breakfast blend is one of my favorites, although the decaf version (like most decafs) has a little less flavor than I prefer. I usually opt for a light to medium roast, but with decaf tend to go darker so there is still some flavor. If you're drinking cafeinated, also try Green Mountain House Blend and the Vermont Blend. For decaf, I usually go with the Donut Shop Decaf (not Donut House, which is lighter roast). It is too dark for me in the caffeinated, but the decaf is pretty good. The Barrista Prime decaf is better, but more expensive and hard to find in our local stores for some reason.

Re-reading this paragraph, I realize that I am either opinionated or addicted. Perhaps both.

My name is Don and I'm a Starbucks addict!

Venti lattes with three pumps each of SF caramel and SF vanilla.  Leaded before noon and usually unleaded after noon.  It is forty miles ONE WAY to my nearest Starbucks so I buy them three at a time.  One to drink and others go in the fridge to be rationed out. GF has my extra Starbucks card and will pick me some up on her way to my house or when I'm down there I can get fresh ones daily. If I can't get to a Starbucks I have a source of local knock off that will sufice till I can.   At work it is regular city hall rot gut with equal and some sort of creamer.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Oh man, it's good to see that I am not alone. I work at a desk all day and usually have 3-4 cups of Joe per day with skim milk and a couple equals. I try to balance it out with some non-caffeinated drinks but really love my coffee!! I find it hard to pass a Dunkin Donuts... At least I don't get donuts or cookies any more while there!!

I also love my Keurig and now buy the Dunkin K-Cups!

Geesh, although this talk of coffee just reminded me of something... My coffee cup is empty!! Have a great caffeinated day!!

I know it's hard for you in the Northeast to understand, but we do not have Dunkin' Donuts in any quantity here. In fact the entire Houston metro may have two. A far cry from my last trip to Pennsylvania/Ohio where there was one on every corner, much like Starbucks is here. I grew up on Dunkin Donuts both the coffee and the chocolate cake donuts and would kill for either one, so it's best if you don't get between me and the DD door.

Too Funny. I can't imagine a drive down the road without passing at least three or four DD's. How barbaric it must be in your neck of the woods!! Just Kidding. I wish they weren't so easily accessible to me!!

We're hoping that Houston gets running water later this year!

This is actually an odd donut area, in my opinion. The city is loaded with small independent mom and pop donut shops. We have only one large chain of donut shops and it has no focus on coffee at all. In fact, it would not be a stretch to say their coffee is among the worst available in the city, and probably is not good enough to be sold in most convenience stores. Untill recently, the best alternative to Starbucks for good brewed coffee was the convenience store chain owned by Exxon called Tiger Mart. They were serving Green Mountain coffees. However, the chain was recently sold to a local chain of convenience store and rebranded resulting in a change to the coffee bar that has driven me away.

I get free starbuck's coffee in the hospital doctor's lounge, so a vendi half caf half decaf daily.
they have a machine that grinds it and brews it in seconds while I try to ignore the free donuts and eggs/bacon, and omlet bar.

Any questions as to how I gained weight in the first place? - 20 years of FREE FOOD.
any way..i digress....

This whole thread has me LMAO!  I recently gave up the joe because I can't stand my Dunkin Donuts coffee without cream and sugar. Hot in the morning and iced in the afternoon, never decaf unless my daughter (DD employee) gets it for me after 8PM. I know once I start back up it will be a landslide back to my old habits... no such thing a "just one". Staying out of the place also keeps me away from my lazy breakfast of a sandwich or muffin...     :-(

Hi All,
Like most have mentioned, I love this thread!! I live in New England and have been drinking Dunkin Donuts Coffee (Along w/ their evil Donuts Pre Op) since I was a kid.

I like Iced Coffe w/ a couple of Splenda w/ 1/2 cream and 1/2 skim milk. I usually have a couple a day. Honestly, I could drink them all day, but know it is a poor choice. If DD is not available I also a have a Keurig at home which is the best invention since the wheel in my opinion.

In any event, like everything else post op diet related I try to remember the key which is MODERATION!!!

Now I am gonna go make a cup of joe!
