How quickly did you return to work after either RNY or VSG surgery?

I am having either one of these two surgeries.  Since I am semi-retired, I currently only work 28 hours a week at my position.  After surgery I am hoping to do the following schedule.

My job is basically sedentary and they had planned on me working 3 hours a day for 3 days at a new position.  I was hoping to at least do those shifts just 7 days after surgery if at all possible, since I am the only one scheduled to do this.

Then I would return to work 5.5 hours 4 days a week for 3 weeks starting 13 days after surgery.  My wife will take me to work if I am still on any meds at all at that time.  I would be tutoring adult GED students.  For the most part I can tell them to come to me for help!

Do you think I am crazy?

Not crazy at all.

I had Surgery on a Thursday, I was home the next day. Rested the weekend. I was working from my home office the following week. After that, I started spliting time between my home office and my office at the plant.

I started traveling at three weeks.

I took it easy for one week.  I then work out of home for 3 more weeks.  After that I would work 1/2 days and whole days if I was up to it.  At 6 weeks I was full time.  One thing I did have problems with was driving.  Losing weight very fast caused my legs to get weak.  I was driven to work up to 10 weeks after surgery.  Couldn't get up into my 4wd pickup. I had the RNY.  Good Luck

My goal to return to work was two weeks after surgery.  The managers at work decided I should wait for 3.  I'm glad they did, as I was still really tired at the 2 week mark.

This sounds pretty reasonable.

I teach high school, and I returned two weeks after surgery.  I was teaching from my desk for a while, but I was there.  I could've returned after a week if I would've had to.  I also would've liked to have taken 3 or 4 weeks, but I survived.

BY my calculations, you are going in for surgery tomorrow. Just wanted to wish you all the best. remember to walk as soon as you can and as much as you can. Sip all the water you can, and follow all your instructions to the letter. Based  on your posts, you;ve had a very long road to this point. Believe it or not, the surgery is just the beginning.

Keep us posted on how you're doing!! See you on the other side.

thanks for everyone's comments and interactions.  This has been helpful.  Waiting for a call from the Univ of Iowa hospitals as to when to check in tomorrow morning!  Will do updates when I am back on the laptop at home.  They say I will be out on Thursday, but knowing my past history with hospital stays it will more than likely be Friday or Saturday :-).

Feeling good, down 55 pounds this morning.  Arthritis is giving me fits right now since I am off my NSAIDs.  I move like a turtle....

I went back to work after three weeks.  I felt good enough to go back after two weeks, but I think I would have gotten pretty tired in the afternoon.  I'm glad I waited three.
