I have been sleeved in Mexico by a lousy surgeon (tried to save money)  and now am having a revision with a great surgeon.  I have done a lot of research this 2nd time around  and am confident with my choice. I do not know your choice of surgeon but it seems by your post that you do not know him either.   This is not to be taken lightly. I have a failed sleeve and  after good money being flushed down the toilet am   scheduled to have another surgery done  yet again.   Research and be sure of  of who's hands you want to put you life in  first of all and  who you want to give your money too.  Sugery can fail,  surgeons can do crappy jobs.  I am just saying, be sure where you are going.  I would not wish anyone  what I have gone through.

    Cath,
Your profile says Dr. Aceves.  Did he do your first sleeve? I'm asking because I'm scheduled to have surgery with him on January 11, 2012.  I'm sorry your sleeve failed.

I am having a friend come down with me.  I was going by myself, then my best friend just bought her tickets and BAM...I have a buddy to go with.

Thank you again for your post. :)

I would suggest finding a Garcia patient more than 2 years out. That is the best bet of finding a true sense of how someone is doing.

    Hi Emily,
I went throught the process of becoming a membr of the site you left a link to. I have to say I probably will not be back. Those boards are filled with mean and nasty comments about what people post on this site. It's strange because every single one of those ladies making fun of newbie questions were a newbie at some point.

This is nothing about you Emily, I would just not advocate for such a mean spirited group of women. Its great they all hit thier goal...but really...its so not cool to actually hyperlink to posts on OH and then jump in and make fun of those asking questions. The group actually jumped in and called one woman dumb and predicted she would fail her surgery. its just mean.

That's perfectly fine if you did not get the info you were looking for. I doubt anyone was making fun of a newbie for a newbie question. Most of those woman spend hours a week helping newbies in the wls process. I have not seen that behavior.

At 2:20pm EST LyndiaIn said:  Hi Lacie,  I'm an active member of both boards and I'm very confused by your post.  I have not seen anyone on the "other board" hyperlink to a newbie post and then make fun of the newbie or their questions.  Many "newbies" have a false impression of what WLS is and isn't and have a honeymooner's view of what life after WLS is going to be like.  Many times they don't want to listen to vetted advice and it is apparent that they haven't thought everything through.  And when it deals with a MAJOR SURGERY that is going to impact your health and the rest of your life, and someone chooses to ignore the facts and advice, then it's a pretty good bet they will fail their surgery, regardless of what surgery they have.

All of the "meanies" you are referring to have helped hundreds of people before, during and after their WLS.  I see you've only been around for a very short time so you don't know a lot of the back history and stories, but I'm sure if you go back and read some of the posts you think were full of mean and nasty comments you will see the comments weren't about newbies, but about other posters who are certainly not new around here.  And no one, trust me, NO ONE has forgetten they were once newbies or were once obese.

It's unfortunate the "other site" has left such a bad taste in your mouth, but I guarantee if you find yourself lurking there more and more, you'll see there are hundreds of kind, supportive, positive and helpful people there.  Are the majority straight-shooters?  Absolutely, but they all have one thing in common - helping people be successful with their WLS, and if that means calling someone out for not listening, then it's because it's trying to save someone from pain, frustration and serious long-term health problems.  I would rather someone give me the straight poop and help save me from myself than to give me kudos, pats on the back and "aw honey's," because when I come back with issues, complications and other problems what will those same people say?  "Oh honey, I'm so sorry you're going through this.  My prayers are with you" and you're still faced with the problems.  Just my two cents.

I'm beginning each of my posts with LyndiaIN said in the event my account is deactivated, you'll still know who said this.

Been on a one week moderation since Dec. 17th.  OH refuses to publish any of my posts to any of the forums, I have sent 14 emails they won't answer.  They change their TOS more often than most change their underwear.

Never heard of a Dr Garcia. Which procedure are you looking at ? Dr Ungson is the WELL known Mexico doctor that I am aware of. Hope you find more information or research more. We have lost good people to Mexican inexperienced docs.

Not being able to find much about him are red flags. How did you find out about him originally ?

     Hi!

I'm a patient of Dr. garcia and have to tell you that i didn't have any problems with him or the surgery, he's very professional, his facility is new, nice and clean. The staff is also a five star rate. He kept checking on me and did a couple leak test to make sure I was fine.  He removed my lap band and a few months later he did a R & Y bypass. The whole experience was great :)

Glad you did not have any issues to date. Your are still in your honeymoon. I pray it continues. I just stated that I had not heard of him and I have been on the WLS boards for years. I was just giving my .02 worth as well. I never wish anything bad on anyone..just sharing what I know. Would love to hear from others who have gone to him as well.

As stated earlier in the thread ... if you go to Mexico I recommend Dr Ungson.. see www.dsfacts.com for more info.

I looked for your previous posts, where are they ? Are you researching ? Are you reading to be informed about docs ? No matter which surgery you pick you need a vetted doc. Don't settle on price, settling on experience. This is your life ! There are also docs in Brazil who come with great reputations.

My story is in my profile. Please go into surgery well educated.

There are some US docs as well that do self pay if that is the issue.
