Topic: RE: Heartburn
Hi a quick update on progress of heartburn, Elevating the bed has worked well and no more midnight heartburn attacks in bed! Also I have discovered that a drop of apple vinegar has at least for me done better than medicines. It goes down a bit harsh but it almost instantly make me feel better. Just wanted to share this with other MGB’ers out there who may have had similar heartburn issues.

Hi SJ, I took your advice and spoke to my local witch doctor, he said the best thing is to elevate the back end of the bed by a couple inches and that should address the waking up in the middle of the night problems….also stick some chicken feathers in my ears.... well maybe not.... He also mentioned to snack on vegies such as carrots and fruits such as water melon in the evening as well as good old yogurt. I got my trusty old hand saw out and to the chagrin of the mrs I built a little wood step below the beds back post. Slept well so will give it a try for a while and see what happens!
Thanks again for the advice,

Regards,
Napoli

Thanks SJ I do Tums before bed but at times I forget and its touch an go. I was just concerned that the Acid does damage to the stomach but what exactly does it do to the throat?
I snack a lot in the evening so I try as best as possible to stick with veggies and some fruits like Bananas to manage the Acid not sure what others do,

Hi guys,
I had my MGB about 2 years ago and all is real well but I still suffer from heartburn. The worst part is waking up now and then in the middle of the night with the burning chest pain and the pinching pain in my right arm. It feels like your having a stroke and your trying to catch your breath for air! I try to consume non acid producing foods in the evening and keep the anti-acid pills next to my bed so I can pop one or two incase I feel the acid surge....

Hi Lisa, Whenever we dare to do something different, some metaphysical scientist(S) will embark on telling us how it could effect a change in the cosmic rays and or refer to the Mayan Calendar of doom! In retrospect these soothsayers may perform a valuable service.  They come to test our level of commitment.  If you notice, the more tentative you feel, the more pessimistic they sound.  If they succeed in discouraging you, be grateful.  You didn't have the moxie to make it in the first place.  This is good information to have.  It means you need to go back and tune up your intention or let go of what's holding you back.  On the other hand, if you're determined to succeed in spite of these killjoys, then you most certainly will. If you need some inspiration I would suggest that “proofs in the pudding” read the “my journey” section for the MGB’ers and you will get a thousand reasons why people went with the MGB. I would look at how their lives used to be and then ask myself if I had a choice to make a difference would I take it? Essentially they way I would look at it is do I feel I deserve to make a difference to myself? What will I do when this change occurs? And how will I use it to create positive attributes to myself and others around me. If you feel this help you then you have a choice. Bernard Shaw had it right when he said “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself”. Regards, Napoli

Thanks Angela appreciate the info, Being a creature of habit I enjoy my grazing in the evening and stop by 9pm in general. The only issue I have had is the shaky hands (slight tremor) and the perspiration on my forehead which seems like the body is in shock. I have not let my self go to where I am gobbling 4 big macs for a snack but will eat something when I feel this come on. As for my weights its been the same now for over 8months so I have not gained anything fortunately. Many thanks again, Napoli

I agree it’s a haphazard approach for us to “doctor” ourselves. I spoke to my local witch Doctor (general M.D.) last night and he said that I would need to go in for a bunch of test to confirm If I have hypoglycemia. The good news though is that he said on average its treatable through (as you guessed) a more balanced diet.  I will await his diagnosis before I discuss with my dietician whom would I presume would know what to put me by my doc’s recommendation. Its funny though as I thought this maybe a well known issue to MGB’ers on this site…..?  In the interim I will continue to have my many meals a day (my coo-workers are going nuts watching me eat all day without gaining weight! Lool). Thanks again! Napoli

Hi SJ, My blood works indicate all is quite well, although I do eat tons of choco’s and sweets. My sugar level is pretty low @80 and although we don’t have any diabetics in the family tree (or branch lol) I do worry that I don’t have hypoglycemia. The symptoms I read on the Internet are very similar to what I periodically go through (once every few months). The treatment seems to be “have a snack”…. I will have to dwell further and see if I am missing something in my diet or if something I am eating is potentially triggering this effect.  It’s a strange feeling to sweat at the forehead and my hands tremble slightly coupled with giddiness and then the hunger feeling. Once I get some food in me it seems to go away but the binging part has me topping at times and that’s the worst part of the whole experience. The good news though is that I feel real healthy all the time and eat well and keeping my same exact weight of 87kgs now for so many months is something I could have only dreamt about before. So if this is a side effect that I will experience now and then…well then its like having the odd cold once or twice a year. Thanks again for trying to help me and I do find your suggestions comforting. Regards, Napoli

Hi thanks SJ, It would be a bit difficult for me to call him as I am 9 or ten hours ahead in the Middle East. At any rate I was wondering if some else had been through a similar experience. Fortunately for me it doesn’t happen often and I cannot seem to gain weight irrelevant of how much I binge but wanted to know if there is as you said a deficiency in my diet or another rational for this to happen. Thanks again, Napoli
Topic: RE: Bing eating late at night
Hi guys, I am about a year and a half post MGB’r and have had a few occasions (late at night) when I get the shakes coupled with a fast heart beat and then some minor sweat on my forehead. Immediately afterwards I feel the need to eat and it becomes a binge session. This has not affected my weight as I am still the same after I stabilized 7 months ago. Usually I get the craving for sweets and last night I devoured half a loaf of sweetbread with raisins !! I paid for it later when I topped and I tried to find info on the net about this to no avail. Does anyone know what causes this? Regards, Napoli
Topic: RE: Exercise...
Hi Barbara, I guess if your used to sports you will always enjoy (health pending) work outs of all sorts. I am not a great sleeper and as such rise up and early (4am) and hit the pavement jogging every morning. I am not lightening McQueen by any sorts by can do the mile in about 8 minutes and generally get 3 miles done in about 25 minutes. I shower, have breakfast, read the news and head out by 6am to work. I repeat the same jog later on in the evening about 8pm and find that its more than adequate to help me relax, get the tension out of my system and burn a few calories in addition! We tend to focus more on the physical benefits of work outs but cannot underestimate the effects it has on our minds too (I still have a bit of mine left!!!).  The early morning jog gives me tons of energy for the day and the evening jog gets me tired enough for sleep a couple of hours later and if I miss one workout I feel like I lost something and certainly stressed more.
