want to crochet a tartan blanket..

I don't crochet, I knit but here's a thought. Couldn't you just crochet a swatch, figure out how big you want it to be and change colors in pattern? Like fair Isle or intarsia? It looks like a pretty even repeat on the colors. Paige.
