I cancelled three days prior to my scheduled surgery.  Even after 6 months of tests and waiting, and feeling sure that I wanted to do it, I suddenly had a gut feeling that I just shouldn't go through with it.  I lost 10lbs on my liquid pre-op diet and I currently weigh 247lbs.  I'm determined to do this once and for all using the motivation of knowing what I almost went through.

Heres to one day, one decision at a time!!

Good for you!

I'm in the same boat as you. I was scheduled for VSG last May but decided to cancel a week or so before the appointment. My starting weight was also pretty close to yours, at 254. Prior to canceling the surgery I was also on the liquid pre-op diet and doing so well at it that I stuck to that for about 8 or 9 weeks total. My rationale being that I was going to have to be on the liquid diet for a couple of weeks prior to surgery, then for a month or more after the surgery anyway. So, I did the diet without the surgery. It’s been a long road, and I’m sure I would have lost more by now had I went through with the VSG. But without the VSG I can, and do indulge in VSG-no-no’s sometimes. I still want to lose another 30 pounds or so, but I’ll get there.

I hope that you have great success doing this without VSG. It is possible, and you can do this! Good luck!

I also began the process for surgery and then backed out.  It has been 10 months and I have lost `104 lbs.  I never thought I could do this!  I began at 275 and I am now 171.  I haven't been 1-anything in 30 years!  This forum is a wonderful inspiration of hope!

although it wasnt my original choice to back out (lost insurance) I am glad I did... I am not as thin as I would have been after surgery, but I am a lot healthier! i go to a personal trainer, and all i need to do now is get my diet on track! OH has been a great life saver!
