Hi SkinnyBonz38,

Thank you for that lovely, inspiring response. We have a lot in common. My main goal is to reduce heart attack/stroke chances. That indeed means reducing weight, processed foods, cholesterol & blood sugar levels. I'm at an age where goal weight & looking good means less than my health.

For me success means taking one step at a time. My main diet addictions were dairy based fats (cheese, salad dressings) & soda. I would have had to eliminate those even if I could have Bariatric surgery. So I finally realized that self control would have been a requirement even if that had been an option.

I love to cook from scratch. That made avoiding most processed & GMO foods easy. The exceptions were soda & dairy fats. I still need to reduce carbs & volume.

Your suggestions were appreciated & helpful. I have used food tracking in the past. But when you're out of control, you stop doing that as well. It is in fact step #3 in my plan. I don't know if this plan will work. What I do know is that I do not miss the soda or cheese & dressings. Even if I don't achieve any other step: I'm already healthier, and 8 lbs lighter with just those 2 baby steps.

I wish you continued success and health. Most of all:thank you for your kind encouragement.

I have a cardiovascular issue that makes surgery very risky. My useless, 3 year search for surgeons willing ignore the risk became an excuse for gluttony. I need to lose 135lbs.

It took 2 weeks, but I detoxed off Pepsi and lost 5lbs. I'm taking step #2 tonight: No Blue cheese dressing, mayo or croutons on my salads. I don't know, for how long, by what method or if success is even likely. I do however, refuse to give up & give in.

I too agree with Janina. After losing 45 lbs pretty slowly but consistently, I got stuck for 4 weeks without moving an ounce. Nothing changed in my diet routine: I keep a food journal religiously.
Then after that 28 day stall I GAINED 2 pounds.

After a massive hissy fit  and fantasies of going postal, I was on my way to BK to eat everything on their menu.  The one normal brain cell left made me  call my doc. She suggested three days of high protein, low carb liquids, and a thyroid check. Thyroid was a bit low, meds were adjusted, and after the third  liquid protein day 3 lbs were gone. Thank God: I was spared a stay in the local asylum. Good luck!!

Teheeeee, that lifts my spirits.

I was a captive in the office today. On top of that I left my healthy lunch at home. So I picked 5 shrimp out of the shrimp fried rice and combined it with an overripe tomato. I don't think the calories count, cause after lunch I ran to the bathroom 4 times. So I exercised too!

Janina

I think there was a wagon massacre. I fell too and landed in the land of Ben and Jerry's, where I ate my way back to the weight when I first boarded the wagon. Like you I was desolate and absolutely embarrassed. I canceled my monthly doctor's visit. But  she's no dummy . She called me and said come in or else. I went back in disguise and full of self loathing, but eventually I went back.

She told me "this is part of the journey, if you don't learn to handle setbacks now, you will never get to your goal". We then discussed what sent me tumbling. I have been back on the wagon and was sorry to see you were a victim too. I have stopped looking back.............maybe because I chickened out, and only came back here when I lost what I regained. Whatever happened before is done,  we are defined by our ability to persevere, not our moments of weakness. I look forward to seeing your face.

Topic: RE: What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud?
HOLLA: NORMAL Mary in da house. I am doing the shimmy in celebration. I think I can see that glow of pride here in GA. Your first post and the following one made me laugh and think.

This time I am approaching weight loss with this  truth: junk food will not be my friend EVER!
I will have to eat sensibly, specially once at goal. Monday I tossed the scale, so that I won't return to my scale ho ways. Every day that I eat midfully, and in moderation is victory. The number is not the final goal, freedom from addictive eating is.

No lean cusine, no pills, no gimmicky diet crutches. Whole foods, cooked in my kitchen combined with exercise is the only way. This realization makes me proud.

Heather, I have "car trouble trauma" and "repair shop phobia" so I can relate. The chocolate you ate or might eat along with that rotten tranny too shall pass. Sometimes life sucks. What you did/do during that time is less important than what you do right after. Despite turning too food, you are not isolating or staying away from this support system. So when you have the strength, put down the chocolate, give yourself a pat on the back and realize what you have accomplished so far. Hugs and strength.

Janina thanks for posting this. My doc suggested that I avoid HFCS, but I was lazy and did not read the ingredients of lean cuisine. I eat those at least 3 times  a week when I try to lose weight.  I did notice that when I eat the frozen foods I am thirstier and more bloated . So I think the other posters are right and you are probably dealing with water weight.

Because my doc told me to focus on whole foods, I believe that this time I have had less cravings and lost more weight. I learned something tonight. I will eat the meals that are in my freezer  occasionally, but focus on whole foods after that. Good luck!
