My iron (ferritin level)  is very low less than one...and will be seeing a specialist to be started on IV iron infusion.

If anyone has any information, or has been through this also can you please share some advice?

Thank you so much

Heidi

I have not had one yet, but will probably have one in the very near future. I am trying to eat as many things high in iron that I am allowed at this time. Good luck, I have to get an infusion once a year for Osteoporosis and it really isn't bad at all... just takes about an hour for the infusion, then wait a few minutes to make sure won't have a reaction to it.

Thank you so much for replying to my post.  I do go today to the doctor to start treatments. I am hoping I feel so much better in a couple months. I will keep you posted.

Again thank you,

Ok. Try sublingual B-12. That'll help. Add more red meat to your diet. Any way that you can get something you need through your food is how the body processes it best. Back off of supplements and OTC medications that can promote bleeding or interfere with clotting. Same with foods. Back off of the garlic, cranberries, etc.

I had a double shot of B12 Monday. Today I am starting my IV iron infusions, and B12 infusions. I should be feeling better very soon. I hope!

Thank you for replying back to my post with helpful information. I will keep you posted.

I was taking iron sups, but they were not working. My iron (ferritin) levels kept dropping to critical levels, so the doctor started giving me IV iron infusions every 2 weeks for the last 2 months. My level is now at 90+, and the doctors want to see if it will stay there.

I go to the Mayo clinic in Minnesota, and they said taking iron pills would take 2-3 years, at least, to get the levels where they need to be. It is possible that an infusion would be necessary a few times a year. I also take a B12 complex pill twice a day, and my levels are way up, but I don't notice any extra energy or anything. My pee is very bright, though!
