“This whey protein would not mix up without a hand blender. I would not want to drink this more than once per day. It would take 6 large scoops to get your daily minimum of 80 g. of protein. Not worth the effort. My husband couldn't drink more than 1/4 c. because it was too horrible.”

“I've never been comfortable making negative comments about things, but just HAD to comment on this one. This was just so very bad!! I've tried many proteins in order to achieve some variety since I'll probably use them ad infinitum, but this was the absolute worst -- couldn't even finish it, as it was actually causing me to gag. And no matter what I did to try to improve it, there was no improvement to be made... all I did was waste some perfectly good additives like Hershey's syrup, peanut butter, etc. This really had no redeeming qualities.
Even the whey processing method is not the best, doesn't give you full "bang for the buck" from a protein standpoint, as it's made mostly from whey CONCENTRATE, not ISOLATES, which I understand is the most effective form for sustained delivery to the system. As I said, I've tried many, but I've never had one that's been so bad that I couldn't even get a whole glass down. I usually share my purchases of the various proteins with others in my group so we all get a chance to sample different things, but I'm actually wondering if I can pass this on in good conscience!”

“Ive really struggled to get my protien in, and I was very hesitant to try this one after my dissapointment with the French Vanilla Flavor. But, this one is really, really good--for a protien drink!! I just mixed it up with a cup of milk and some SF vanillla syrup (all I had on hand) and it was good. Even my fiancee commented that I didnt complain or gag over it. I was able to drink it in about 20 minutes, which is a record for me. ”

“You get a good sized canister with scoop for this price. This was purchased at Meijer. Wal-Mart is actually much cheaper (I found out after I bought this one). You get a 5 lb. canister for around the same cost. I mix mine with skim milk and it gives me 26 gr. protein with not much sugar and only 180 calories (for both the milk and the scoop). ”

“I was not pleased with Designer Whey Chocolate Protein Mix. This flavor, as well as all of their flavors, are intended to be used with milk although if you email the makers of the product they will tell you that water will work. When mixed with milk, it tastes very much like a chocolate Slim Fast shake. When you make it with water, (like you have to during the very first months after surgery) it's not very good at all. It's so watery and you can totally taste the protein and the chocolate taste is off because you don't have the sweet taste of the milk to go with it. I also don't feel that it is very economical. I bought the smallest container they had to try it at $15.00 + tax and it only has 15 servings in it (Designer Whey sales larger sizes for more money). There is only 17.5 grams of protein per scoop / serving. I need to get 50 grams of protein a day from my protein mix (I am getting the other 30 grams I need from hot protein drinks I'm buying from my dietician). At 17.5 grams a scoop/serving, I would have to use 3 scoops a day to reach 50 grams. That means that a $15.00 container of Designer Whey will only last me for 5 days. That's over $90.00 a month to keep me in that source of protein, which I don't even like the taste of. Designer Whey calls itself America's #1 Protein, but I don't see why. I would also like to add something about preparing this or any protein shake. I have noticed from reading other reviews that they use milk, carnation breakfast shake, and fruit to add flavor to their shakes. Information given to me from my dietician at my wls center is not to eat or drink anything other than sugar free drinks and meat until after 50% of my excess weight is lost. Only then can I start adding fruits and vegetables back into my diet. Milk is introduced even later than that because some people become lactose intolerant after surgery. I've also noticed that some people count the milk they use with it as part of their protein grams. If your doctor says that you should get a certain amount of protein a day, (mine wants 60-80 grams, preferably closer to 80) you should only count the protein grams you get from your powder, not the milk you drink (which you shouldn't drink at first) or the meat you eat. Getting all of your protein you need in with your protein mix, as well as eating all the food you are supposed to even if you are force feeding yourself, will not only help prevent hair loss, but keep your body from eating its muscle tone instead of fat and keep your body from going into famine mode and storing fat. Exercise daily of course will help build muscle tone and help continue your weight loss pass the initial "honeymoon time" that is the first six months.”
