Topic: RE: Maintenance....variability & mysterious

At this point, 1100 calories seems to be maintenance, with 1-2 lb up or down, seemingly depending upon how much liquid I get in. Doing well with chewable vitamins and biotin, and I can see tiny hairs growing back in the patches that are so very thin.

I've set protein at 110 grams, fats at 34 grams, and balance in healthy carbs.

The variability and mystery comes in because I cannot eat a "normal" small plate with 3 items like people do. I have to finish all of one thing, and then wait about 15 minutes and do the healthy carb. Otherwise, my touchy stomach rebels.

This seems to mean I eat often throughout the day. My doctor said its fine with him, but wouldn't it be convenient to eat 3 meals and a snack? But just can't do it.

Any thoughts on how to juggle this? Gratefully I am retired, so I really can eat whenever. And if we are traveling or visiting the kids, I take my protein shakes and Triple Zero Yogurt to fill in the blanks without making a big deal of my diet.

Thanks!

I track everything and I do measure (I'm OCD at is common among those with high anxiety levels)

Normally I hit 80+ grams of protein.

B is usually an egg (although I'm a bit tired of them) and I like my egg scrambled well, and use Pecorrino cheese rather than salt. I may throw a bit of FF cheddar and salsa. And I try to add a healthy carb, like Mountain Sprout bread. I don't mind it 'naked' rather than using butter.

L is some kind of left-over; I love TheWorldAccordingtoEggFace recipes. I don't always follow the direction as I've been cooking over 40 years. I've found preparation of several meals at a time makes me feel more fed, and also less likely to make a least bad choice.

D is again a protein, try for a healthy vegetable

S is either 1 TB PB, or 8 almonds, or Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt. Or homemade 0 fat Greek yogurt dip with a corn tortilla (I bake these ahead with Pam in the oven -- not the same as a chip, but still good!)

I've never been good about liking to eat the same thing 2 days in a row; that said, our retired person budget means we try not to waste things. I use a small crockpot -- we've raised 6 kids and I cook better in volume, but our freezer is pretty full, and my lovely husband eats anything I give him!

One of my friends, and also a neighborhood person do the paleo. It seems very effective for them. I am probably not going that route. I am approaching 66 (they are in their early 40's) and I have had so many health issues that I've found I have to be moderate.

But they have some tasty recipes for high protein, low carb. I just have to watch the fat :) Thanks

I saw her "pizza porn" section, and I'm going to try one slice...

Yes. I've added some almonds, and some days 2 tsp (not TB) of peanut butter. It helps. Thank you!

At 5 months out, I'm about 2 lbs from goal. I'm struggling to eat well, and I'm just tired of the "same old-same old"!

I got some wonderful advice about increasing my calories gradually so I can head to maintenance.

I know I need to continue protein first, then dense carbs like vegetables. I am not a big dairy person, other than Premier Protein and fat-free cheddar; oh, and Triple Zero yogurt.

Is there a link or something that would help?

Thanks
