    low blood sugar...

I had some blood work done to check all my levels at the beginning of June and when I got my results, my bloodsugar was 3.8

Today, at work, I told my boss that I was taking my break a little early cuz i felt funny. About half an hr later, I was still not feeling right, so I went to talk to my boss again. He took my blood sugar reading and it was 3.6... He told me to drink OJ and I did.

A little while later, I still wasn't feeling up to par, so I went up to the ER to get checked out. They made me drink 2 more juices and wait 20 mins. After that, my blood sugar was 9.1, I felt better.

I am almost 2yrs out (sept 2010 was my surgery)
The foods I found online to eat to avoid hypoglycemia, I already eat.
    Any suggestions?
Recent studies out of NY by Dr. Roslin have found that around 80% of RNYers likely have hypoglycaemia. I hope the assessment centres will start to tell people that this is a risk more likely than not to happen with RNY surgery. Diminishing Dawn has a lot of info on it.

How is this information assisting Leanne? She asked for suggestions not your freakin' "recent studies" statistics.

Karen, I was trying to reassure Leanne that this is an extremely common issue, more common than most people realize, and that she's certainly not alone in it. Then I directed her to DD who is one of the most knowledgeable people on our board on this issue. I apologize if this doesn't meet your particular definition of 'support'.

Thank you Dawn, I read it and it's very helpful.

Thank you Trish and Star ;)

    Hi Leanne

I keep glucose tabs in my purse - golf bag - and office in case I have a problem....I feel it in my fingertips first and react immediately by taking some glucose....

I also find...and Dawn has probably sent all this to you....that I can manage it well by really watching my simple carbs...

If I have a bagel/muffin etc in the morning instead of my usual protein shake....then likely an hour or so later I will experience a problem...

If you eat simple carbs....try to ensure you eat protein with them....and more protein then the simple carb....

I can go weeks without an episode....for me it is completely related to what I am eating....I know for others there are different factors at work

    Good luck

Thank you Barb. I will get some of those. My foods haven't really changed that much... but I will still keep an eye on it

I understand re your food hasnt changed much in the past while....however reactive hypoglycemia usually shows up around the 2 year mark....so things you previously ate that were no problem....now may pose one...

watch your combo's....I can handle some crackers if combined with protein ( cheese or p/b) but only if my day has had the proper amount of solid protein...I would have a problem if I ate a muffin/bagel for breakfast.....and then crackers and cheese for lunch....too many simple carbs for me

hi Leanne, I to experience low blood sugar. I do best by avoiding simple carbs and make sure i eat protein every couple of hours. Also,I always have a cheese string in my purse/pocket just in case.

Listen my little friend text your nursing buddy next time and let me know ....lol. I could of saved you a trip to the ER. Glad your better!
