introducing the latest member of the iron deficient......

ME!!!   So I had my 3 month post op on Friday the 6th. Aspen called today with the results.... My iron is low, and they are thinking of reducing my Thyroid meds again.....
The dietician wants me to eat more...Ugh I just can't!!!!
    AND....The darn scale is stuck.....again!!!

Definitely a journey ...not a race!!!

Definitely a journey.  At least you know what you have to do now.
As for the iron, someone suggested a Cream of Wheat breakfast.  Maybe that would help.
If you are not eating enough, it can do bad things to the scale as well.  Or it could be the heat.

    Good luck on your journey!

     Cream of wheat.... Ucky!!! Lol
    Thanks anyway!! Hahaha

I'm giving the scale the cold shoulder until Friday. Maybe longer....
Bought my iron tonight. Supposed to take it before bed with vitamin C.... Hope it works! It could take over 2 weeks to notice improvement..... Wait and see I guess!!

Not the right kind of iron for post ops you may as well throw it in the toilet.
The surgeons and Dieticians have no idea that we don't absorb the iron salts.
Read Leona's link in her signature line.
Proferrin (Heme Iron) or FeraMax (polysaccharide-iron complex) are two of the recommended types or iron to use.

Just had orientation today and they told us to combine foods with iron and vitamin C which will help the iron absorb better.
    suggestions were:
    -cream of wheat and peaches
    -spaghetti with meatsauce and tomato
-chicken fajitas with brocolli and sweet peppers and tomato
    -homemade hamburger and coleslaw

also to make sure that you limit caffeine.

forgive me I am just full of news from my orientation and want to share...

If you like tomatoe juice, the small tins 5.5 ounces has 7 grams of Iron per.  Every little bit will help.  I am also low on Iron.  I am gong to finish my Fer N Sol tonight *(it is the most disgusting thing EVER) and go to the pharmacy tomorrow to get some proferin.  Good luck!
    Keep us posted.
Thanks Marls! I like tomato juice.... I'll give it a shot!! Good luck with your new suppliment today!!!

Great suggestions. just don't add milk or butter to the cream of wheat as that will block the absorption of iron. Same as will adding cheese to the spagetti, burgers or fajitas..

    Now I'm hungry

I'm up to 2 iron pills a day plus the extra iron in my multi-vitamins....I am barely scraping the low end of the normal range.
My husband threatens to make me eat liver, so I try really hard to remember to take them every day and when I dont, I sure do feel it. I am dragging my butt!!

My scale hates me too. You'll eventually get over it. Just think of it as a jealous girlfriend....;)
