I have been eating celery, broccoli and cucumber as well as drinking jugs upon jugs of crystal light and im starving.

    HELP!!!!
Stay Strong!  I am 6 days postop RNY.    The 14 days was really tough.  Some days I would spend hours looking at the before/after pics on this website.  Seemed to give me strength.  Once I had my surgery, I have not been physically hungry... at all.

    You can do this!!
You have done the hard part. The first 3-4 days are the toughest. Keep on track, You can do this. Opti gets you ready for surgery. The hunger will pass

I hear ya girl I'm on day 5 and starving. Drinkin water and it's not filling. But we can do this. This is the hardest part of the process. Once surgery is done we won't be hungry from what I've been told. Keep ur chin up and ur eye in the prize. That's what I'm doin.
    Good luck girl!!
Thanks everyone for your encouraging words, does anyone else feel irritated and angry on opti?
Yes, I have many ppl at work saying I'm not myself. Lol
As I say alot. Been there. Done that.  I remember reading that it takes a few days for your body to go into ketosis and until that happens your mind and your body is screaming "feed me".

I'm sure others on here are more knowledgeable about this but I"m wondering if eating those vegetables is causing you to not go into ketosis and that is why you are hungry?

According to the paperwork from the surgeon, they say we are allowed 2 cups max of these veggies per day.
I'm still in the stage of waiting to actually get a surgeon...but when I was at nutrition classes, they actually gave us a chance to try the Optifast (otherwise known as a CARDBOARD FLAVOURED MILKSHAKE) and it was awful.  The first thought was omg how am I ever going to do this for 2 or 3 weeks...but I know...2 or 3 weeks is nothing compared to the change in your life over the next 2 or 3 years.  Its just a stepping stone hunny, and it too will pass.   This is going to be the best time of your life...just get past this pesky little stepping stone and on to the next, till you reach the great big beautiful island that is the rest of your life

    Stay strong :)

    Hi Bearsmom,
I do feel for you and my time is coming soon. My surgery is August 21st so I think I will need to start on the 7th. I see the surgeon on the 2nd, which is my birthday. I will pick up my Optifast on that day. I think I will try to sleep alot on those first few days, if I can.
I wish you all the best with the rest of your Optifast.

It should get easier. I'm totally jealous though because we weren't allowed the veggies on Opti. ;)

What worked for me was distracting myself. I would do little home projects or clean out a cupboard or a drawer. Sometimes I would find that a big drink of water would help cravings pass.

Keep your eye on the prize because this is only temporary. And like others have said, after surgery, that major hunger is gone. Hang in there!!

As someone else said distract yourself. Make sure it is real hunger and not just mind hunger. i hated the opti and it gave me diarrhea. Which should have made me hungry. I only took 3 a day instead of the 4 and I was not hungry. I missed food more than being hungry. Our minds play tricks saying I am not eating therefore I must be hungry.

Oh no, not 11 more days of this... Day 3 is the worst of it. In 24-48 hours you should hit ketosis and the hunger will go away.

Stay strong, girl, you can do this. :)
