I selected Toronto HRRH. I have heard that both are good!!! Someone told me that I might get it done quicker by going with Toronto but I don't know how true it is. I also selected Toronto because I have family there. Good Luck :)

I'm at HRRH and it's been great so far. I've only done the Orientation and 1st Surgeon meeting, but so far everyone has been terrific. What I really appreciate is that the office staff will try to book your RN, Dietitian, and Social Worker appointments for the same day, which is great if you're coming in from out-of-town. Also, the timetable from Orientation to surgery seems to be pretty good comparatively speaking.
Good luck!

I went to Ottawa and they were great...they also booked my appointments for the same day (drove from Kingston)..  New surgeon there Dr Neville was lovely and the staff were outstanding.  The rooms are semi...but it was great for me my roomie was from the Kingston area and all of our experiences were similiar as we had surgery the same day with the same surgeon, we are keeping in touch and have had our follow up appointments together too.  The only point for me was Ottawa seems so much smaller than Toronto when you are getting around...for some appointments I took the bus to Ottawa and it was 10 min to the hospital so it seemed pretty convenient.  Good luck wherever you go.

Morning,

I to way given the choice between HRRH and Ottawa and after extensive research the ordination to surgery timeline is generally faster thru HRRH. All my pre op appointments were thru Kingston.

Don't let the fact that HRRH is in Toronto scare you. the hospital and its adjoining clinic are not located anywhere close to downtown and parking is not a issue. I drive in from Barrie in under 45 min and its a stress free highway drive for me. No downtown traffic to contend with. St Mikes hospital on the other hand is directly DT.

Ultimately your decision should not be based solely on time. Keep in mind you want to be reasonably close to your surgical site the first few days post op if you run into any complications once released.  Keep in mind the distance you will need to travel for follow up appointments your looking at many a future follow up trip.

Both sites consist of excellent staff and your in good hands medically at both hospitals.

Hope this helps

Ah, It will be sooo nice when there is eventually bariatric surgeons in Kingston, won't it?  I haven't even had my orientation yet and being on my own I am already wondering about the logistics of travel.  It seems that the HRRH process is quicker than Ottawa, but the thoughts of driving anywhere further west then Pickering scares me :(

I went to HRRH, everything up to and including my surgery went well..I had two nurses (back to back shifts) that caused some trouble by not reading my chart before disconnecting my IV and not checking my fluid intake or output and ignoring my call bell and request for some towels and forgetting to put me on the full fluid menu causing me to have to delay my trip home by half a day. BUT other wise my stay was as pleasant as could be. If I could do it again..as soon as I saw something off I would have said something sooner.
