Hiatal Hernia

I was told my hiatal hernia will be fixed during my operation. Would love to hear from anyone else who had both procedures done at the same time.

Is hospital time and recovery impacted a lot by having the hernia fixed?

Hi, while I haven't had my surgery yet, I was told i had an umbilical hernia and the surgeon told me he'll fix it on his way out. In my case, he said since the scope goes through the belly button, mine should be easy to fix because that  is where the stitches would go to close the incision and would not take time at all. Good luck to you.

umbilical hernia is different than a hiatal hernia.

I had both done at the same time....and from what I can tell from other people it didn't change my recovery time and all is well with me. I am 3 months post op. All the best for your surgery, recovery and using your new tool.

I asked the surgeon to do mine but he said they were both small and he did not want to cut bowel and do the hernias at the same time, I was hoping for a one shot speedy repair on both hernias and gull bladder removal but no go for me.

 Respectfully Jane

Thanks Jane.  The doctor who did my endoscopy said they'd do both but I guess I will wait until I see Dr Mamazza and see what he says...thank you!

a hiatus hernia is the stomach protruding through the diaphragm. Its no trouble at all to fix, mine was a surprise fix during the srugery, no extra time involved in recovery.

Mine was done at the same time. It was on the smaller side but Dr wanted to fix it just in case. I found I was hiccuping a lot post surgery. Dr said it was because of the hernia repair and the diaphragm involvement. No pain at all from it.
