I only took eight days, and I work from home. I figured I could manage, but honestly, it WAS NOT enough time. All I wanted to do was sleep. If I could take it back, I would have taken about three weeks.

Maybe just book off the six weeks, and see how you feel. I'm sure they'd allow you to come back earlier with no issue, that would probably be easier than trying to extend it should you only request a few weeks, and find you need more.

I do office work as well.   I took two weeks and really wish I had taken three.   The first week back was tough because I got tired (physically and mentally)  quick. Even half days would have been a good idea.   Everyone is different but I agree it's tough to be home when you aren't use to it.

It does take time to settle into a routine of when to eat,  what to eat,  vitamins,  fluids etc.

All the best on your journey.

No, there aren't any "need to's" other than what your body needs and the demands of your job. I took 2 weeks off and was good to go but in hindsight I should have taken a little longer to get my eating routines down pat a bit more. It will really depend on how you respond to surgery and recovery.

Hi There, The funny thing for me is I felt awesome and easily could have worked my 2nd week out, but into the 3rd and 4th week with introducing more solid foods I was throwing up a lot and that made me not feel good at all. The things I was suppose to eat eggs, meat ,fish all made me sick so it took awhile to figure out what I could eat. So I would suggest the same as some of the others, book it and then go back early if it works out easily for you. Good Luck

I was told to take 4 weeks off and I did.  I was probably physically ready to go back after 2 1/2 or 3 weeks, but wanted to get use to my new eating habits and figure out what I could and couldn't eat before I tried to get back into a work routine.  That worked well for me.  My last week was spend getting ready (cooking, shopping etc.) for dealing with my new lifestyle.

I'm coming up on two weeks tomorrow and there's no way I could go back to work yet, even in an office job. But everyone is different.

I took about a week and a half and regretted it. I was just soooo tired. I still am a lot for some reason.

Hi Pattijo1

I had surgery 10 days ago.  I'm scheduled to go back to work at the 2 week mark...but it's not going to happen.

I have not healed as quickly as others and I'm unable to be in a "seated" position for any length of time.

I don't think I will require the full 4 weeks off, but 3 for sure!!

Everyone is different - don't push yourself, take the time you need.  This is the beginning of the rest of your life, make sure you get off on the right foot :)
