I have my NP appointment on Monday!  I'm really excited to be moving forward.  What should I expect from the NP?  I'm hoping to petition for GSV over RNY, so if anybody has any pointers on that, too, that would be super helpful.

Orientation (TWH): 11 Feb 15 || SW: 17 Apr 15 || NP: 25 May 15 || Class: 2 June 15
Psych: 11 June 15 || Dietitian: 18 June 15 || Surgeon: 14 Aug 15 || Surgery: 23 Oct 15

Not sure what to expect at that appointment, sorry (though I think she'll weigh you, blood pressure, order blood work, etc.).

I think it's great that you're looking into the Sleeve - when you discuss that option, please call it the VSG (not GSV) - Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy.

Are you seeing the nurse to get the referral, or is this the nurse you're seeing after you've had orientation? I ask because I was referred by a nurse instead of a family doctor (I didn't have one at the time). If she's sending in your referral she'll have nothing at all to do with the type of surgery you get. And come to think of it, neither will the other nurse. :)

Good luck either way, I do not regret a single second of it.

Referral - Feb 25th, 2014. Info Session - April 7th
Surgeon#1 - May 15th  Dr. Glazer - July 23rd, Dietitian/Social Worker/RN - Aug 1st, Surgeon #2 - Sept 10th, Surgery - Dec 16th, 2014!

Hi. I just had my nurse practitioner appointment and it went really well. She went over the blood work that I had done, took my blood pressure, we need and measured me. She then went to the questionnaire that I had filled out already and just asked me to question the second time to see if there was anything we needed to elaborate on. One thing we discussed was the headaches that I get. Because I get frequent headaches and use Advil A lot she mentioned that I might be better off with the sleeve because I will not be able to take Advil if I go with the RNY. So if you do not want the RNY, that might be a way to have them convinced that you were better with the sleeve. Also just be honest and why you want it and see what they say.

1st referral-June 2014, sent back and resubmitted September 2014. Wrong referral-medical not surgical. December 22-Surgical Referral sent in.

At my RN appointment, she reviewed my medications, medical history, and filled out a questionnaire.  I asked her about getting a VSG over a RNY, but she informed me that a RNY can prevent Type II Diabetes, which the VSG cannot.  Since both my parents have Type II Diabetes, this really swayed my opinion.  I have since spoken with the surgeon about VSG versus RNY, and he explained how because of my health, and weight, the RNY will be the better option for me.
