Hi there,

I had gastric bi-pass in Dec 2014. A bit of a bumpy ride in the beginning, but the best thing that I ever did.

Does anyone else have issues with a sensitive tongue ? My tongue is white towards the back, but the front taste buds are inflamed and sensitive to cold/heat/spicy food.

My doctor thinks that it is due to a lack of vitamin B12. I have started getting injections once per month, but I have not seen an improvement. I also have very poor absorbtion of iron, so I have to go for iron infusions. Does anyone have experience with those as well?

Thanks,

Wendy

Tongue just takes time to get better. Have you had your D checked?

I started having issues with low ferritin at yr 3-4. I have been going for iron infusions about every 6 months. I get venofer 200 mg x2 about a week apart. Takes about an hour. 300 mg they run over 2 hours. Make sure you are taking the right type of iron. I take Proferrin 1 tab 3xday.

You say Proferrin tab?  Is it a melting tab or tablet?  I am taking Feramax but I don't like having to mix it with something.  I would prefer some kind of tablet would be so much easier?

It is a tablet. There is a generic formula too which is cheaper. Kept behind the counter. Stay away from ferrous gluconate and ferrous sulphide we don't digest it. Check out the Iron Maiden for info on iron

Oh I already know what is what with iron but did not realize that the proferin is a tablet.  Yeh, I am going to try that one.  Right now I am breaking open the Feramax as that is what I have right now and put them in something but it is messy and a pain.  Where can you buy proferin?  Thanks so much for this information.

I have not had my surgery yet - so maybe my situation is different, but my iron and hemoglobin levels are very low (bordering on blood transfusion low).   My doctor told me to take iron and she referred me to a hematologist.    A friend suggested I take Proferrin.  I was able to get it a Costco.   When I finally got my appointment with the specialist and showed him what I was taking, he told me it would not help.  I had to take Elemental Iron.   Now I'm taking Feramax along with folic acid to try and improve my levels.  I got back in a few weeks to see how the levels have progressed.
