Hi All,

I have some questions rgarding the Opti, I know you are given a specific time frame to take Opti depending on your weight and amount needed to lose.  However, I have no idea how this is purchased.  Is it at a pharmacy? Online? Is it purchased weekly? How much of it do you take in a day.  Any information is appreciated.  Also, is the taste, texture similar to slim fast products?

Hi there, Each center is different. I am with Humber and got mine at the surgeon's office. Two weeks worth. I had 4 shakes a day. I didn't think it tasted like slim fast. I didn't mind the taste to much. For me the first 4 days were the hardest. Lots of people add sugar free syrups or crystal lite. I liked mine mixed with my bullet with lots of ice. Good luck.

Ottawa - a prescription is required in order to get Optifast.  In Ottawa, patients take it for 3 weeks prior to their surgery.

Through Windsor you purchase after your teleconference with the surgeon, once they've determined how long you need to be on it. You buy it from the hospital.

At TWH, you pay for it at the appointment when you meet the surgeon and it is shipped to you, or you can get a prescription and pick it up in Mississauga.

I didn't like the Optifast.  I switched to GNC's lean shake.  I have 4 boxes of optifast sitting here if anyone local to Toronto wants it.

I would not advise anyone to switch from Optifast to GNC lean.  They are not the same thing at all.  The Optifast is formulated as a meal replacement.  The GNC lean is just a protein shake (not a replacement).  You need to be in the best shape possible before surgery.  The switch could leave you nutritionally deficient.

The nutritionist was ok with it at my doctor's office.  She just has me supplementing it with vegetables since the calorie count is not as high as Optifast.
