I also only met him 5 minutes before surgery where he marked and measured my stomach. I met Dr. Penner at my surgeon's appointment but of course at TWH the planned surgeon is not for sure the surgeon you will have on the day you arrive. I would say 85% chance of last second change of surgeon. I also have not ever saw the surgeon again and the surgery was flawless until 2 years later when I got twisted bowels, hernia and a gallbladder full of stones. Had a different surgeon for that don't even remember his name because it was an emergency. But all is well.

Don't be surprised if your surgeon changes last minute ... I was scheduled for Dr Okrainec and because he had done an emergency surgery all night, I ended up with Dr. Jackson (who was awesome). Seems to happen a lot at TWH because they are general surgeons and do a lot of types of surgery, not just bariatric. I think all their qualifications are quite good. As others said, I met him before the surgery and haven't seen him since. I had no complications and you can hardly see the scars anymore.
