Driving after surgery

Hey folks! Were you told how long after surgery you were allowed to drive your car? Usually, it's 24h after general anaesthesia but I'm still taking Tramadol and not sure if it's one of the narcotics that prevent you from driving.

I think a lot has to do with the fact you have multiple incisions from the surgery and the abdominal surgery as well.  Usually there is a warning get on the medication bottle regarding operating machinery or driving.

TWH said 2 weeks - I assume that has to do with the amount of time you choose to continue the pain killers - I only took mine for 2 days after coming home - so I plan on driving this weekend :) (just under 2 weeks)

Hi! I asked this exact question in the Pre-Surg 2 class. They said when you feel comfortable and you have not had any narcotics in the last 24 hours.

It is a narcotic so no you can't drive while taking that.

You need to check with your centre or pharmacist to see when you can drive again after stopping the drug. Please, please do not drive if you are not feeling 100% alert. I did not drive until 3 1/2 weeks out because I was so tired and groggy. Legally I could have, but I knew my reaction time was not good enough to be on the road.
