ON TO SECOND STAGE

I had my surgery a week ago and have been getting stronger each day. My incisions are looking good and I went out yesterday to pick up what I needed for the second stage - yeah! The liquids have been going down well - drinking more than my quota of water, tea and broth. Although I had gone through TWH, I am following Guelph's guidelines that allow for a liquid diet for a full week, and then fuller liquids for the next two. I'm making one exception that I'm adding Leanfit whey protein isolate made with warm water twice a day instead of just the strained cream soup made with milk. I believe I need the protein and this, plus 1/2 cup of Skyr yogurt twice daily, add up to more than 80 gr. Still drinking herbal tea and water, and will have one meal of strained cream soup as well. 1/4 cup of low fat pudding or unsweetened applesauce will be my last snack. I have made it quite easy and structured each day, but I have yet to tire of what I am allowed - even the broth which was my one "treat" during the Opti phase. I have two weeks of it, so I'll see how I do. So far so good. Silly as it sounds, I'm not looking forward to getting my staples out next Tuesday. Due to the complications I had there are 24. If that is the whole of my worries, I'm a lucky girl.

Sounds like your doing great! I'm not even close to getting in my protein in, so great job!

Glad your feeling better. That sounds like a lot of staples, hopefully it won't be too bad!

Keep up the great work in getting your fluids and protein in.

Take care.

Glad things are going well.... I only followed Guelph for the time I was in hospital...then followed TWH. All was well for me. Glad you are feeling better!!

It gets better with each and every day.

Just curious, what is the TWH post op guideline? Is it much different from Guelph?

Liquids included protein shakes, yogurts cream of wheat all from the get go.

TWH liquids more or less resembled full liquids...but also protein shakes.

Personally i don't think it makes a difference...Dr. Reed told me after surgery my stomach was fine. It's not like over time it develop more...it's over time that our body heals and readjusts to the new configuration.

I got my surgery in Guelph but followed TWH as that is what my surgeon told me to do...

Sounds like you're doing great! I really tired of the purees, but for liquids I was fine as well. I had 18 staples, so 7 less than you but that's not a lot. They were out easy peasy. You'll be fine.
