Hi-It's me MJ! I find this mindful eating tricky. Am I the only one? First let me say I completed my first week after my RNY - and I am still on the Fluid Phase. I find just stopping between bites a challenge. Am I supposed to wait 5 minutes between sips/bites or can I just count 10 Mississippi's? I find it hard when I am eating with my family. I get distracted but I don't want people not to talk over dinner, it is usually our only meal together. I get I am fretting because I want to get this figured out NOW while I have time to sit with it. ANY advise you can give would be great!

TOGETHER we can be BETTER

Best, MJ

Are you eating the first weeK? I thought it was liquids only the first week. I haven't had my surgery yet...just wondering.

Hi Barb1 Oh Gosh No. I am on full fluids until the 18th of August. But I am having "meals" such as applesauce, SF pudding, SF Jello, LF cream soups and Greek yogurt.

Hi MJ, congrats on your first week!

I used to take one sip, wait, 1 sip, wait. My body kind of regulated things for me because if I took an extra sip too soon, I'd have a LOT of pain so there was never any danger of taking too many sips too fast for me after the first time. I didn't count or anything just waited a bit until it was time to force the next sip down.

If it's hard for you to have your protein shake with your family, you can always have it later or earlier and just sit drinking your water with them at their meals so you're still getting your quality time together.

Ahhh mindful eating... a great tool- no distractions, nvr eat while angry, crying or watching tv. Concentrate on taste, texture and amount... OK having said that it doesn't really apply to the first six months after surgery I think ... but the first part does ;)
