Hair Loss :(

Ok, I know, this topic has been beat to death. I knew going into this surgery that Hair Loss is REAL - I just didn't realize how MUCH hair loss. So here I am, like clock work, month 3, washed my hair, and CHUNKS/CLUMPS of hair are just falling out effortlessly. I had hair down to my butt, and cut it 2 months post-op so that the hair loss would be less traumatic...or so I thought. YEAH right, this is making me crazy, every time I brush my hair, more hair falls out. It is literally everywhere! Is there anything that can help at all?!? Or do I just have to ride this out?

You just have to ride it out! It will stop, and grow back.

Gah!! This is a BIG worry for me. I had super fine hair my whole life and then after I had my son in 2014 it thickened up dramatically and I've got so many compliments because it's such a drastic change from how it was before. I'm really gutted that I now have to face this and I'm dreading it. What I'm doing is taking Biotin supplements 5000mcg a day. I'm 3 weeks from surgery and have been on it for a couple weeks now. I don't know if it will help with the losing of hair but I believe it's beneficial for regrowth. I'm not an overly "hairy" person at all so no noticeable changes in body hair other than my leg hair grew in quicker than normal but I definitely see a difference in my nails. I'm praying it helps! I think the main thing to remember is that it should grow back! The hair follicles don't die, which would cause permanent loss, it's just the malabsorption and stress on the body pushing the shedding cycle forward. That's how I understood it. But yes, I'm super freaked out by this prospect and understand your anxiety.

Me too, losing hair like crazy, I am almost ready to stop brushing my hair and revert to the "mummy do", easy care wash and wear hair.

we have all had hopes that this will it happen to us, I guess we should have dropped that fantasy.

more distressing for me is my peaches and cream complexion includes peach fuzz on my face, with weight loss and loss of hair on my head it has increased!

all I can say is FML, I was hoping the chin hairs would go!

Seriously, what is with that?! Less hair head and more face hair. Life can be cruel! That's been me for the past 8 years (eastern European background). Now reading this, i suspect it will get worse. Ugh.

Ih well. At least there's laser surgery, wigs, and my health. Haha.

That is just what I plan to do sooner than later. Just to reduce the shock , and have time to get used to my new look as well as my new body.

3-6 months out were so awful for my hair loss. I had to empty my brush daily with handfuls. It terrified me. When i washed my hair it was even more. Thankfully now it's growing back and I have almost an inch of regrowth that sticks up on the top of my head. Lol at least it's growing back now!

My doctor at the BMI Clinic suggested I take biotin vitamins after surgery (I've seen chewable tablets). Biotin strengthens your hair and makes it grow faster. Also great for nails and skin. I would ask your doctor about it :)
