Are mind plays a very big roll in loving food, and my mind is getting very board

because everything taste blah. It's hard to get excited about the new food I am

eating and trying, it's unreal how strong are minds are grrrrrrrrr.

I go for my one month check up next week I'll ask them for sure, I really hope my

taste buds wake up soon!!!

Oh no. That doesn't sound fun.

I didn't have that problem. I found a few tastes hard to paletize in the beginning (lemon, pepper) but now my taste buds seem to have normalized.

I assume you've moved to puréed foods now? Are you using full flavours when cooking? When I first started, I was worried about spices so I cooked bland food and had to add spices... quite a bit of spices!!!

Hi Oneatatime,

Yes I am one week in on my pureed foods, and yes I use full flavours when cooking. My sense of smell works great but my sense of taste is way down. I even got my hubby to try what I made and he said wow you got a little heavy with the spices. I told him I kept adding little by little until I could taste it, so that just shows me my taste buds are way off. I really hope it comes back soon, I don't look forward to eating because everything taste blah. My new pouch hasn't given me any trouble thank goodness.

Apparently your taste buds got a heavy dose of anesthetic... they're still asleep!!!

Crazy eh. Well, eat to live at this point, a concept I am only learning. Haha. Hopefully enjoyment comes back quickly. :)

I am three weeks out as well and I am finding that my tastebuds as well as my sense of smell is extremely heightened. I am finding pleasure smelling food...not so much eating it. I like the taste in my mouth, just not the food itself...hard to explain. Anyway life is sure an adventure now!

Hi Smoka,

My sense of smell works really well and it gets my taste buds going, but once I start chewing game over it starts tasting very blah quickly. One thing I am really happy about is my new pouch hasn't given me a hard time what so ever it likes everything I try. I have heard some people can't do dairy and so on, so I am very great full that me and my pouch are getting along lol.

My taste buds are the same i am one month out. i have never had trouble with premier protein i had it for a while a couple of years ago. but now it makes me gag. a lot of food i have loved before is unpalatable it is a hard thing to go thorough. for me it is paired with a complete and utter lack of apatite. i dont want to eat ANYTHING! i am forcing down 2 meals a day. i know i need three and veggies. but i cant seem to manage. bear with it according to the dietitian at TWH at my month check up it is all normal. the un-palitability and the lack of apatite

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Thank you so much Rce,

I go for my one month check up this Wed,Oct 11th. I have been told many different things about what will be going on at the one month check up. One person from TWH said they want to make sure my staples and stitches are still intact and everything looks good. Another person said from TWH said I am only talking to a dietitian. Then I get a letter from TWH this morning with all my appointments and it says (follow up appointment is 2-3 hours long, it is also a joint appointment group setting, with a nurse practitioner). Could you please shed some light to what will be going on lol.

Thanks Dee

Well Dee, i can only speak from my experience but i arrived early (highly recommend) i was taken in by the nurse practitioner in training and weighed on their big scale. then i sat back down in the waiting room another nurse called me in and took my vitals, just blood pressure and such. then she asked if i had any questions. i was concerned about the largest scab/scar on my abdomen. and the lumps underneath she told me they were perfectly normal she looked at my wounds and felt them. said there was scar tissue under the skin and it would be like that for a while. i was comforted. then i was taken to the room where we had the nutrition class before surgery. i was the first one to get there. when the others arrive we began a class that was a lot of question and answer. we got to contribute a lot and ask all our nutrition based questions. (like why we don't want to eat, who developed lactose intolerance, why some can handle certain foods and not others)it was very involved. it talked about constipation and hair loss. and vitamins. we got an updated hand out for vitamins and then the nurse came in and did her thing. in all it took less time than they predicted. i think it was from 1-2:30 so not nearly 3 hours. but your time may vary.

we also received all the paperwork (blood requisitions) for the next 5 years of follow up.

hope that helps
