Feeling worried

I've seen the NP and I'm booked to see the dietician and sw next Tuesday. Had the ecg and blood work and I'm booked for colonoscopy/endoscopy December 7. Here's what's worrying me. I got a call from the bariatric centre for me to come in and see an internist Monday because they saw an arrhythmia/palpitation on my ecg.my fear all along has been that they'll find something in the work ups tha will prevent me having the bariatric surgery. Anyone else have this happen?

The likely want to talk with you to discuss the results and what precautions or preventative measures can be taken.

My father has an arrhythmia and I have a small hole in my heart. We have both had multiple surgeries. Ultimately it does make the surgery higher risk but it can be done. It does become a bigger issue for the anesthesiologist but it is not anything that they haven't dealt with.

They want to make sure you're as healthy as possible before putting your body through the additional stress of surgery. If they find a problem they will likely treat it first before moving forward. For me, that meant waiting an additional 6 months until my vitamin D levels came up to normal levels, plus a long wait to see an asthma specialist because mine took a year off but didn't tell any of his patients or their doctors, so my doctor just kept waiting and waiting to hear back from him, until finally after almost a year I was able to get in to see an out of town specialist.

If there's a problem it might delay things a little bit, but it's all for the best if it means you'll go into surgery as healthy as possible. Hang in there.

I am sorry you got this kind of call and now worried about what will happen re: your health and the surgery. I had an experience as well. I had the ECG and was notified I had hypertrophy of the left side of my heart - which indicated undiagnosed high blood pressure, it was weird because I had borderline blood pressure readings - never high. Apparently damage can happen if you are a high normal range as well.... Also, the abdominal ultrasound revealed I had a fatty liver. I was worried about these health issues, and what it might mean for surgery too. Neither prevented me from having surgery. I am thankful they were identified and that my family doctor could begin helping me with the management of them. Not happy I was more unhealthy than i thought. However, at the same time, it confirmed this surgery was important for my health, as weight loss may improve both of the issues diagnosed. I hope everything goes well for you. Best regards, Julie
