Medication Absorption post op?
It is a potential concern. Many of the meds associated with comorbidities will not be required for long - if you even go back on them. I have hashimotos hypothyroidism and take a high dose of synthroid daily. My doctor and I are staying on top of testing to ensure that my needs are being met with the dosage. If there was a concern related to a specific medication and absorption, it is likely that this would have been addressed during your meeting with the internist. All of my meds were reviewed at this stage and with the nurse and potential impacts were discussed. I would assume that if you have not had anything brought up, you are likely okay. I would still talk with your doctor and stay on top of any testing that may be required.

I have found that gelcaps don't usually work well with me so I will take caplets instead for over the counter meds. Also the pharmacist at Guelph hospital said that most extended release drugs don't work as well for us. You can check with the pharmacist at your Centre's hospital and ask about your specific prescriptions.

Referral to Guelph Feb/13, Sleep study and all bloodwork and ultrasound May/13, orientation July/13. Nurse, NUT,SW Sept/13, 2nd NUT, nurse and SW, 3rd round and cleared for surgery Dec/13. Pre-op Apr 7/14, Surgeon May 2/14, Opti Jul 3/14, surgery Jul 17/14.
For most people once you get a bit out from surgery there isn't a huge impact. For one of the meds I take we have split the dosage so I take it every 12 hours just in case. I feel like I'm getting it more consistently that way. The other one we just increased the dosage slightly. There are bariatric pharmacists that may be available to evaluate your particular meds and give suggestions to your doctor.

I wouldn't ask this question to anyone but my surgeon, G.P. or pharmacist. The pharmacist at Guelph came by to personally review my meds, tell me what I could stay on, what will no longer work, and reviewed a list of NSAIDS - including creams such as Voltarin - that I should no longer be using.
This is an individualized, medical question that should be answered by the professionals. Like many, I am not off everything but my vitamins and the odd Tylenol - nothing else.
