I switched to Restoralax

Ok, me with the bowels again!!! :)

As some of you may know, I've had ongoing bowel issues since Opti, and they got way worse after surgery. To the point where I was crying on the toilet two weeks after surgery. Oh the painful memories. :(

I started taking 2 senokot nightly plus 1 colace twice daily every day since then. My prescription was running out for the senokot, and I knew from a previous conversation with my doctor that he wasn't going to want to renew it.

Two days ago, I made the leap. I gave up the senokot and started taking Restoralax instead. On the advice of the pharmacist, I am still taking the colace since I have some.

I am pleased to report that my bowels seem to have transitioned well so far. Fingers crossed I remain regular!!

Here's my question to all you post ops: for anyone who had bowel difficulties, do you continue to take Restoralax? Do you take it daily? Did you ever manage to transition off?

Thanks!!

I thought senokot was over-the-counter?

It's available both ways. TWH gave me a prescription for it when I left the hospital, and my doc renewed it. It was cheaper for me to get it that way.

I take restoralax daily and still don't have daily movements. Every few days I supplement with Senokot or even Dulcolax. I didn't know it was available by prescription, that would be cheaper! Next time I'm at the doc I'll ask her about that.

I've actually been suffering the last couple of days and have had two dulcolax and at least 5 senokot since Thursday evening. As well as the Colace.

you either don't take enough restoralax or not drinking enough water.

I take 2 cupfuls every morning and I drink at least 60-80 oz of liquids with/after that before I eat anything: coffee, tea, water... That works great.

Thanks HALA, I only have one coffee in the morning at home so I'm only using one capful. I get in at least 80-100 oz of water a day, so maybe I'll add it to my water bottle before I head to the gym in the morning too.

See if two capfuls does the trick.

Also - take enough of the stool softener. I take 2 morning and 2 at night. If still an issue then I go to 3.

I also have one coffee... 20 oz one coffee.i use both cupfuls in one coffee.

when I tried to split the dose - it did not work as good as one time 2 cupfuls.

Plus I take 800-1200 mg of magnesium, capsules, 400mg each, before bed.

I'll give it a try although my coffee is only 10 oz. I take magnesium on occasion for leg cramps. It's not something I do daily. Maybe I'll try that too.

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear you're suffering. I hope it's resolved soon. And I hope you can get the senokot by prescription and cheaper or free.

Thanks for responding. :)
