Scale Victory

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been MIA lately. My new job keeps me super busy and then with my son's hockey season, that keeps me even busier!

I'm all for scale victories because they are amazing but I needed to celebrate this scale victory. I hit 168.5lbs today and am in the normal BMI range for the first time since I was 13 years old. Even at my lowest adult weight of 175 - I was never in the normal range. I always made the excuse of having big bones (I really don't) or having too much muscle when I played sports but I was always bigger than your average girl.

I am almost a year old and this surgery has been life changing for me both physically and mentally. I can play with my kids more - I can run with them and not be out of breathe in 2 seconds. I can play volleyball easier, I can jump again. I can shop at "normal" stores and I've unsubscribed to emails to my old go-to stores. I'm in a size 4-6 shirt and a 6-8 pants from a 28 pant and a 22-24 shirt. I bought a size small shirt at old navy and it was baggy in my stomach.

Mentally it's been a struggle to see myself like this. My head hasn't caught up to my body. I still feel self-conscious in clothing and definitely when I'm naked. I have a lot of skin in my stomach that's loose. Being overweight for so long and having 2 kids have really taken their toll. My legs are wrinkled at the thigh and so are my hips... but I would do it in a heartbeat again.

I had to take my son to the doctors yesterday and my doctor told me to stop losing (I lost another 2.5lbs this week which isn't normal - I don't lose for 3 weeks and lose for 1 etc). She said I was fine the way I was but is happy with my carb intake (about 50-70grams per day usually). She's a big advocate of not eating too many carbs thankfully. She said she was worried about bone dentisty if I lost more. A lot of people are telling me not to lose anymore either. I've lost 155.5lbs since I started this journey and it feels amazing. I'd like to lose another 4.5lbs so I can say I lost half of myself. I just don't know if I should listen to my doctor...

Sorry for the long post. Hope everyone is well. :)

Wow, congratulations, Jo; you've done so well!

It must feel amazing to get into the "normal" BMI range! 155.5 Lbs lost; that is amazing!

I hear you on the lose skin and wrinkles; I'm 53 and never had any wrinkles at all and now that I've lost a lot of weight, it's weird to see wrinkles on my body. I especially don't like the ones on my neck, but I had so many double chins pre op that it only makes sense that I'd have some there, now that I have a single chin. If I could afford plastic surgery, that is the spot I'd do first, lol.

I can't wait to be in the normal range, I've never been that in my adult life.
I hope that you find some clarity in whether or not you want to continue to lose. Its such a personal decision. CONGRATS on all your success though!!!!

Congratulations Jo!! What an inspiring post. Your on and off the scale victories are amazing. Getting to half your size sure would be incredible!! If that goal makes sense for you, go for it. Regardless of what you decide, what you've achieved is remarkable and playing with your kids and living a fulfilling life is the best reward.

I can't wait for all those rewards!! Thanks for such a great post!!! :)

Amazing post, and more importantly an amazing job you have done on this weight loss journey. You should feel very proud of yourself!

As for the doctor and other people's opinion onto whether you should stop losing or not, its up to you. Do what makes you happy, if that's losing a few more pounds or not, only you know.

Again thanks for the post I love reading updates.
