Hair loss - yup it's happening...
I am almost 4 months post op and I have noticed over the past 2 weeks that my hair is falling out. Today was particularly bad. It's just coming out in clumps. I am lucky that I have thick hair and a lot of it, but how long will this last? I have been using a special shampoo formulated for hair loss by Aveda. I love the way my hair feels and smells when using it, but it's really pricey and clearly is not working!! YIKES.
Anybody have similar experience and any wisdom to share?

Mine stopped falling out around 9 months post-op. It did grow in thicker than it was. For a while I had little hairs sticking straight up as the new hairs grew back.

Referral to Guelph Feb/13, Sleep study and all bloodwork and ultrasound May/13, orientation July/13. Nurse, NUT,SW Sept/13, 2nd NUT, nurse and SW, 3rd round and cleared for surgery Dec/13. Pre-op Apr 7/14, Surgeon May 2/14, Opti Jul 3/14, surgery Jul 17/14.
Okay, so I may still have a few months left of this. ...time to brace myself!

Mine started around 3 months post op and lasted up to a year. I lost over half my hair but nobody noticed but myself and my stylist as I have thick, curly hair. Nothing will stop it, it just happens with rapid weight loss and after anesthetic.
I'm hoping mine won't be too noticeable either.

I had really thick hair and at nearly 1 year out I think I'm still losing more than pre-op, but it's slowed down some. I have little hairs that stick up everywhere from re-growth and I also have a bit of a receding hairline. YIKES. I use the Monat brand re-grow shampoo, but other than trying to keep what I have nice and healthy I realize that shampoos can't actually do anything for our hair loss.

Seems like most people will have the tiny hairs sticking up. Oh well, I would trade that any day for the amount of weight I have lost so far. Thanks for you input. It's preparing me!!

Hi Barb,
I'm almost a year out and am still losing some hair, but also have regrowth in the form of short hairs poking out all over my scalp. The stuff that didn't fall out is long though, so it holds the short hairs down everywhere except for my part line, which looks a bit crazy, lol. I lost about half of my hair volume but nobody noticed at all. It's actually a lot faster to blow dry now, lol.
As for the shampoos, I don't think any shampoo can stop the hair from falling out.

Ugh, hair loss... I keep dreading if that will happen to me. I hope yours stops soon.
