Catheter for surgery?

I wondered its normal to have a catheter fitted for surgery? I've had one in for several past surgeries and always have a really bad bladder infection afterwards. The thought of a bladder infection during the healing process when you can barely eat/drink/move straight after major surgery (and travelling back to Sudbury from Toronto) does not fill me with joy.

I was told that I will have one, when I asked my surgeon Dr. Graber.

I didn't have one. It was never even discussed.

Unless they put one in when I was under and took it out before I came to, I don't think I had a catheter either. My surgery was in Guelph

This will be added to my questions for the surgeon then because some people did and some people didn't. I wish there was consistency! :)

As far as I know I didn't have a catheter; it was never discussed and I didn't have any soreness in that area to suggest that one had been put in

I didn't have one that I know of but still ended up with a urinary tract infection after I believe it was from the acid medication they put us on after surgery.

Good luck!!
