hello there, now that I'm 3 months post op my nurse at my 3 month appointment told me that I could swallow my pills whole. She also told me that the really big ones can be cut in half. So I bought the calcium citrate pills at Costco and dear Lord they are HUGE. I cut each one into thirds and they're still getting stuck! Did they thin out my esophagus too?! Does anyone have any advice on which calcium citrate plus vitamin D pills to buy? I am open to buying online in American frickin lower than our value dollars too :). Thanks everyone!

p.s. Looking for a smaller size pill

I've been taking liquid calcium since surgery. Easy peasy. The D3 in pill form is easy to get down as well. I'm also taking a liquid multivitamin for now.

My parental multivitamin from Costco is huge as well, I cut it in half and take it with a spoon full of Greek yogurt, haven't had an issue with it getting stuck. You could also try applesauce.

If you are near Hamilton, St. Joe's hospital pharmacy has Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Chews. They usually stock them in raspberry, caramel or chocolate. They also carry the Bariatric Advantage MultiVitamin. Haven't bought them there in a year, so call to make sure they have stock if you are going there.

If you are not near Hamilton, check the pharmacy at your Centre Hospital.

I usually do the chews or else powdered calcium that I mix into yogurt, but I used to drop the tablets into my protein shake. They eventually dissolve. They dissolve much easier in the fruity ones, though, because of the acid.

I suppose you could also crush the big ones and mix them into yogurt (or whatever), too...I mean just until you use them up.

Crush them and throw them in water and drink. There is no flavour even to the ones that aren't chewable. Any bits that don't dissolve don't worry about it. I hate chewables because of the fake flavour, it's right up there with the liquid for me. I actually sometimes just chew them without crushing then follow with a swig of liquid.
