1st question: If I have never had a sleep study done will they ask for one to be done before surgery?

2nd question: has anyone else already have their gall bladder removed before having WLS? I was reading somewhere that because of previous abdominal surgery that they may not do RNY? anyone have any info on this?

My centre (Kingston) said they sent everyone for a sleep study who didn't have one.

I don't know about question 2.

At Windsor it was if your neck was over a certain circumference or if your BMI was over something. I can't remember the numbers, sorry.

I don't think gallbladder surgery would be a big worry, I think that statement is in reference to surgeries that may have caused a lot of scar tissue to build up as that can have risks?

You can request one from your family doctor, my understanding is once it's within a year they will accept it.

In that case I would for sure have your family doctor refer you to a sleep clinic now, get it scheduled so that by the time you have your orientation maybe you won't be waiting too much longer for it. Waiting lists can be long, my referral was made in April? My test was in June and I didn't get my appointment for results until August. Better to request the referral now, but possibly your area has lower wait list.

I went through TWH and didn't have to have one. There is a criteria that they use... neck size, if you snore, and some other things.

As for being able to have RNY with previous surgery, the surgeon will discuss this with you, but yes... many have successfully had RNY with previous abdominal surgeries including gallbladder removal.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.
