On a roll!!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while, but i've been lurking around. Theres always so much great information here and sometime I just like to read.

Anywho, since the new year things have really moved forward quickly for me. I had my orientation on January 10th here in Sudbury. We were originally given our dates for one on ones. Mine were scheduled for Aug 8/18. I was ok with that gave me a little more time to figure out how I was going to manage work and kids and such. BUT then the beginning of February they called and bumped my appointments up to this month! I was excited and nervous and just blown away that they could move them up SO MUCH.

I had my Dietician and Social Worker appointments last week, and my Nurse Practitioner appointment today. everyone has said that they feel I'm pretty well good to move forward. I have a phone follow up with the Dietician on Mar 2. She wants me to work on making sure I'm eating all my meals regularly. That has been my biggest challenge, as being a Nurse sometimes we skip our meals trying to get all our work done (usually supper for me). Its been a week and I've been able to get all my meals in at work (WOOT) so that will be nice to report to her. I have a phone follow up with the Nurse Practitioner on Mar 14, mostly because she wants to make sure that I'm ready to proceed. I'm a little overwhelmed with how fast this has gone, and I haven't even had time to tell people who are close to me beyond my husband. I told my best friend today and she reacted well (almost no reaction, but thats kinda how she is ) Next up is my parents... that will be interesting.

I just wanted to share the excitement. Its so exciting to be moving forward, especially when I originally expected to be waiting at least a year!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

I don't know what's going on with Sudbury these last few weeks. They are having a major push to clear everyone their books. I think you're the 4th person I've read about who had their orientation in January and are now almost finished their 1-1's. After 1-1's are finished the meet the surgeon is often the same week (or the following Thursday) and surgery is generally 1 month after the meet the surgeon.

I'm super excited for you!

I spoke to the Nurse Practitioner about it today. Basically its a money thing. Its year end, and if the program doesn't use all the funding they were given, they don't get as much money for the next year. So they went through and identified people who were "good candidates" for surgery to fast track them so they get as many people as they can through so they can use up whats left of their funding. I'm not sure what makes a good candidate, but I'm glad I fell into that group.

I think it?s usually those who don?t have a ton of complicated medical issues and who?s paperwork responses show them as being ?on it? so ready to make the changes required.

Whatever it is I?m delighted for everyone moving quickly. My 1-1s happened much quicker than people on my orientation and I?m having surgery as they are finishing theirs.

I do think as a rule they are insanely disorganized in the Sudbury centre. They lose people?s paperwork, forget your there for your appointment which you then miss (my OTN this happened with) and then they call to book your 1-1s while your sitting at your preop lol

This is great news! I also heard the same thing when I was in Sudbury a few weeks ago. They are trying to use up the budget. I guess this is great news for people who hope to move along quickly.
