Weight loss after orientation.

Hey all, I'm getting closer to my orientation date (March 26th) and I've been gaining weight because I have not been dieting. Does anyone know if you're required or encouraged to lose weight after your weigh in for orientation? I'm kind of dying to go on a diet, as the weight gain has been fast and I feel kind of blah.

thanks all!

I didn't get weighed at my orientation.

Maybe every centre is different.

Maybe they won't weigh me? I'm not sure as I haven't gone yet. Did they at any point encourage you to lose weight presurgery? Or was it just the optifast and then surgery?

They weigh you when you go see the nurse not at orientation.

I was encouraged to do so but really they just wanted to make sure I was making changes. They didn't really care about scale numbers.

In fact, at some later appointments it was my choice if I wanted to be weighed or not.

Hey! I'm in Hamilton. They never encouraged us to actually lose weight they encouraged us to change habits. Like stop eating a lot of bread and eat more veggies. Things like that. I just finished all my last appointment march 6. I was only ever weighed during my nurse appointment. I have a feeling i'll be weighed again when I meet the sugeron. So basically you don't have to worry about losing weight, but you can if you want. Through this whole journey I've realized that they don't really care about numbers. They just want you to be healthy.

At Humber your starting weight is the weight sent in on your original paper work. You are weighed at every appointment except orientation. They encourage you to eat healthier and weight gain could result in extra appointments being required as they then think you are not trying or not understanding. Good luck!

At TWH, I didn't get weighed at orientation. I did get weighed at all my other appointments though.

They didn't care if I lost weight, but they did care if I gained weight - meaning they were at least looking for me to maintain what I started at.

Also, when I met with the dietitian, I had to bring in new food logs, and was able at that meeting to demonstrate what positive changes I had made in preparation for surgery. That was an important step.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.
