Hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather .Feeling a little tired today .Think I might be doing too much lately .I'm still off work but finding little things to keep busy while recovering.

Looking for advice....not hungry and having a hard time getting all my meals in .I do drink lots of water as the recommendations. I have about a cup of cream of wheat for breakfast or bran flakes. I started out with only 1/2 cup but then tried to get more in as I'm not getting much protein in. Then I try to have a cup of mushroom soup or yogurt with skim milk powder added but I don't normally eat this until later in the afternoon then I end up trying to force myself to eat something else as I still need a meal for dinner. Am I getting enough being only 14 days Post op and can only have liquids.

I was the same.. and my rule was listen to your body, Priority for me was hydration and food took second fiddle.

I made a meal and would take up to 2 hours to eat, ( just in time for a snack lol) slowly but surely i would get in to a rhythm or routine and now i eat 5 - 6 times per day, small portions sometimes spit into two snack meals., just listening t what my body is saying to me... Keep the soft foods going and i ended up going an extra week just because it was comfortable.

Super excited about your journey and enjoy discovering new ways of eating and taste experiences.

Glad you are home and everything went well. You can add Premier Protein Vanilla to your coffee using it as a creamer. Bulk Barn sells unflavoured whey protein and you can add some to soup to boost the protein (just don't boil it or it will clump). Hydration is the most important thing right now. SKYR yogurt plain has an incredible amount of protein (21g for the 0% fat per serving. Not that you will be able to eat a full serving) You can use sweetener or SF syrups to flavour it.

Hydration is important as is PROTEIN. Protein helps you heal so it's really important to get that in.

You should be trying to get a Protein shake in each day, then the other foods to bolster you up to 60 grams of protein per day.

BTW, the protein shake also counts as a liquid.

Add protein powder to your cream of wheat to get your protein numbers on the rise.

Welcome Joanna! You have received very good advice but the thing I noticed was the large gap between breakfast and lunch. If I read that right you don't have lunch till late afternoon? My suggestion would be to eat at more regular intervals, I wasn't hungry either but once I started to eat more regularly I felt better. I still don't eat 1 cup of anything at a meal yet but I have one premier protein shake for breakfast every day to meet my protein requirements and I'm 9 weeks out.

Good luck!

I will start to have my protein shake early tomorrow and hopefully I can get something else in around noon or after. My shake is at least 2 cups .

Yea due to not having an appetite and I'm having that milk kinda taste in my mouth all day it minimizes my desire to eat. I assume it's from all the milk products I was taking in as I'm on the all liquid stage.

Thanks for all the advice .

Hi Joanna,

It sounds like you're coming along well post surgery. Keep it up!

I think the recommendations to have a protein shake a day is a great one. At two weeks out, it is extremely difficult to meet your protein and nutritional needs without having a protein shake. A Premier Protein would take me an hour to drink at that stage. I kept it on ice. That helped.

Also, at two weeks, and even two months, listening to your body is not the best way to go. It's all messed up. Nerves have been cut and haven't healed yet. Eat and drink with purpose. Your body has no sense of hunger or fullness.

I would also reconsider cream of wheat and bran flakes as your daily choices. Both are carbs. Cream of wheat is pure carbs with no fibre. Bran at least has fibre. But I would seriously consider food sources such as yogurt, skyr, cottage cheese and other non carb options. The soup with extra skim milk powder sounds good to me. I assume it's strained at this stage.

You got this girl. Hopefully you're tracking at this stage too. It's important to meet your protein targets or be getting closer. And stay hydrated. :)

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

Thanks! Yes all those items are my go to items. Got tired of the mushroom soup quick though. But trying other protein options. Yes staying hydrated and concentrating on my protein intake.

Just want to make sure I don't get weak or dehydrated.

Thanks for all the advice. I will make sure to tell my body it needs something even if it's not hungry. ?

Do you have the book Weight-Loss Surgery Guide and Diet Program? It was recommended to me by my dietitian at Humber River Hospital. The book is awesome and it has some sample menu plans for all surgery stages and some amazing recipes.

In my liquid stage I enjoyed their Cream of Aparagus and Cream of Chicken soups. They are awesome.
