I've read over and over again to be careful of adding protein powder to hot foods because it lumps up. If that's the case, how do you add it to oatmeal and soups?

I had pretty good results by making a slurry of protein powder and tepid tap water, I'm guessing you could substitute any liquid as long as it's not hot.

Add it in a slurry like Squishy said, once the soup or oatmeal is cooked. You don't want to add it while the soup or oatmeal is boiling. This applies to whey protein. Some proteins like calcium caseinate (not absorbed as easily for us WLS'ers) don't clump as much and that's why they make them in drinks that can be heated.

I did the slurry thing too, even when adding to yogurt, made it a little runny but still okay. Don't add too much at first even the unflavoured has flavour, so I found about a half a scoop was the max for most servings.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of powdered protein.

I do however add it to my food for that extra boost of protein. I have added to puddings, oatmeal etc.

I will add 1/2 scoop of unflavoured whey protein to my oatmeal after I cooked it. In puddings I will add to cold milk, mix it and then add to the mixture.

I can ALWAYS taste the powdered protein in my food and I don't really enjoy the taste and it therefore gets a big YUCK from me.

I shudder to think what flavoured protein powder tastes like. Yikes.
