Hey guys,

I haven't gotten much guidance from my center so I'm wondering what you guys have been following. I'm eating approximately 600 ish calories a day now that I'm in puree stage and I'm wondering if that's about average at 2 weeks post op?

How much should I be eating in 1 month? 6 months? a year?

Thanks!

600 seems high at 2 weeks. Having said that make sure you are hitting your protein goals and getting in enough fluids.

Manh will say between 600 a 850 calories a day during the losing phase.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

I just had my 6 month check up. I average between 900 - 1000 calories per day and the Dietician said that was perfect. I'm still losing and close to goal.

The Centres are different with their advice. I agree with Ginny and make sure you get in your minimum 60g protein (will help you heal) and lots of fluids (will help with energy). At 2 weeks post-op I was eating about 350-400 and really struggling to make my protein goals.

Guelph told me 650-850 during the losing phase. During the first year, most people lose no matter what they do. What is important is to really develop good habits (both in exercise and eating) and also strategies early out. You will get tempted again by your former favourites (everybody does), how will you handle those temptations. Set a limit of maybe a 5lb regain and once you see that buckle down hard.

Hope this helps Stacey.

I think 600 is a bit high for two weeks but you should call the dietician at your centre and double check. I was at 450 for at least the first month. However I am now at about 800-900 at nearly six months and I feel that's too much, checking in with the dietician about it tomorrow....it's so easy to be uncertain without very specific information from the centre. Good luck on your journey!

I agree with what everyone is saying. The challenge at 2 weeks for me, when I started puree, was that I didn't feel full. The nerves are cut during surgery and haven't healed yet. Your fullness will kick in in a few weeks!

600 seems a bit high to me as well, but you will lose at that calorie intake. If it feels right for you, it's fine.

You will increase your calories, and like one poster said, you will get tempted again. But during the first year, due to malabsorption, you will continue to lose regardless.

Good luck! The next few months you're going to see incredible transformations :)

I lied! I just went back through baritastic and I've been eating between 400-500 a day. I feel full constantly so I guess I just tricked myself into thinking it was more calories than I was actually ingesting. I've lost 25 lbs since I started opti on July 11. I average about 65-75g protein per day
