Anyone postpone thier surgery (TWH)

Hi,

I was so excited to have surgery and couldn't wait for it happen. Now, with my surgeon's appointment happening next week, my personal life has had a bit of upheaval. The person I thought would be caring for me the first few days post surgery can't anymore, we're selling a property, and I don't want to be in recovery mode while living in an Airbnb or staying with friends outside of Toronto (in a small town) and not close to a hospital (30-40 min drive). If the surgery were to happen in 2018 or even January it would not be ideal for recovery, but if it were March or April, I'd be in a good spot.

What is the wait time from surgeon's appointment to surgery?
If I request being postponed, will it just delay it 2 or 3 months, or put me on the bottom of a list?

Hi,

I met with the surgeon from TWH June 16th 2017 and at that time got my surgery date of November 10th 2017, hope that gives you some kind of idea. I am not sure what the wait times are now though.

I could have had my surgery in November of last year but delayed until 2018 for work reasons. It was no problem.

I had my surgery at Toronto East General March 2017. They wanted me to have it right before XMAS Dec 19th and of course that was lousy timing for me for work so I asked if I could postpone until March. They didn't have a problem rescheduling for me at all. I hope you can get yourself sorted out!

Well I had my appointment. She had some days available in December, but I said I wanted a 2019 date. She advised that it will be January of February 2019. She said I will get my exact date on Wednesday.

I really thought about delaying, but I think I will go through with it. I will just book a hotel near the hospital for a week so I can recover and be in close proximity of the hospital in case of emergency. I'm assuming it will be at Toronto Western Hospital so I'm looking for hotels around there.

Ask the nurse/receptionist if the hospital knows of any respite homes where you can recover. They're usually cheaper than a hotel and have medical staff as well. Hamilton has one near the General Hospital.
