Not my goal

Just had my 6 month checkup at the bariatric clinic. I've lost 63 pounds and the NP says I've surpassed their goal for me even though I'm still 20 lbs overweight. She suggested I'm probably done losing weight now. I think not. I seem to be totally plateaued the last month, but I really want to dump those last 20 pounds, which still leaves me 10 pounds heavier than my dream weight but I can live with that. And I only had surgery 7 months ago. I'm still on the honeymoon. Why waste it. She seemed to think I was done.

what day you, WLS friends?

Keep on doing what you're doing. We all stall from time to time. I'm in a stall right now. I have 7 lbs to my personal goal. I have totally surpassed what the clinic had chosen as a goal weight for me. I'm 50lbs lower than what they estimated.

Pedal to the metal until you reach YOUR goal. You are wise not to waste your honeymoon period. Do what you need to bust this plateau. It could be upping your water, lowering carbs, doing cardio after weight lifting like Ginny was explaining in the WAYE thread today. Pauline you are so worth your goal.

I too am a slow loser. I had a month when the scale didn't move. The Dr told me at 6 months I'd probably only get to 180 which was not encouraging. But then maybe it was a tactic to get me to double down. I haven changed anything except I notced that drinking plain water instead of flavoured with Crystal light seemed to get this moving again. If you're older, (I am 61), I think the weight loss is slower. Just my opinion. Keep going. You're doing great!

My weight loss was fast out of the gate, and has slowed to a trickle now, at all my 6 month appointments they said I was a success as I'd lost the 80% of "excess" weight the surgery was deemed to help with, but I too would like to still get down to a "normal" weight range. I'd like to lose another 30 pounds, but it definitely is harder now when I can eat most things without issues, and my spouse now asking "what's for desert" again.

Exercise has been a real issue for me due to time constraints and arthritis, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to make time somehow in order to restart my weight loss. If only I didn't need so much sleep now.

I agree that we shouldn't waste this period when it's supposed to be easiest now.

I asked similar questions. I think the DR office tends to just focus on getting people from obese to overweight and set realistic goals so the majority of patients achieve it. Based on people on the forum, lots of people have exceeded the goals set by their doctors. I think you're still in the prime losing phase until 18 months. Keep on trucking to reach your goal as long as it's a healthy weight.

I am in agreeance with the majority. Don't stop until you are satisfied, and as long as it is healthy for you. A scale # is nice and all, especially while we are reaching our goals, but how you FEEL is 100% more satisfying. At least for me it is. Good job on your success!
