Topic: RE: Holidays for Guelph Hospital???

Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings. Happy New Year and New You to all WLS patients.

My one year follow up is Dec. 30 so they should be back by then.

    All the best

    Topic: RE: Guelph Question

Janine is AWESOME and very encouraging. I have had Nancy (very business like) and Janine and both nurses. I understand they have added another nurse and in process of adding more staff to address demand. Call the Bariatric Clinic number and ask to speak with her, they will put you through or leave a message for her to call you.

    Topic: RE: Guelph social worker...
It is my understanding from Audrey that they requested funding for another social worker at least part time as well as another nurse and more dietician time as their numbers have increased dramatically and they can't keep up as it is.

Topic: RE: Update from Guelph clinic, Q & A
Yes we are very fortunate indeed. In other provinces few of us could afford the money to achieve what we have through WLS. Thanks for the valuable information J.

    Topic: RE: Freezing....

I am six months post op and still have times where I am so cold it is insane, but they are few and far between compared to the first couple months post op so it does get better. I was told it was the body's reaction to the weight loss changes.

Topic: RE: Scratch another goal off my list!!
    Awesome job Mike/Lance,
Glad to see you had enough kick in you to avoid getting a serious bite from the dog. He will be more careful next time I am sure. You are doing fantastic and a true inspiration.

Topic: RE: No longer Super Obese!
Great job keep up the good work. Imagine the difference it will be this summer. What a difference three months makes!

    Topic: RE: Constipated.......OMG
Lactulose is what JDance is referring to I believe and it does work, typically however I have been warned that post surgery you should not take a laxative, just stool softeners or use enemas. The other option is tonnes of water in as short a period as possible. Pre-surgery it is not as challenging as post-surgery obviously. Good luck, I hear your pain.

Topic: RE: What is going on?
    Hello Maria,
I understand exactly what you are saying as I went through the same thing. I think my husband thought he was living with someone else while I was on Optifast as I was all over the place emotionally. The previous posters are correct as the combination of hormone changes and low sugar can definitely make a difference in mood.

If you need someone to talk to send me a message. I am not a specialist but been there done that recently. It does get better.

    Topic: RE: Getting depressed
    Lisa,
Don't get too upset. It will be worth the wait, but in the meantime call the clinic where you have had your first appointments or your own doctor and tell them about the delay with the scope and see if they can find an alternative location where it can be done sooner. I know a few woman at the clinic last time that were able to get some of the tests done almost immediately by asking the clinic to send in the referral. At least one of them at an appointment for the following week at the same hospital where the surgery will be done.

    It is worth a try.

Topic: RE: discouraged - no referral sent
I agree with EricaFG she ha**** a homerun with it. Contact the Ombudsman and voice your concerns until you get a response and confirmation it has been received by the appropriate centre. There are clearly glitches in any system, but they can't do anything about it unless someone speaks up and says something.

Obviously getting through the growing pains of a new registry is painful for those of us who were eager to get started on the journey. After you make the decision, it would be nice if the surgery was immediate. Unfortunately that isn't even the case for back surgeries and even heart surgeries, in Ontario or elsewhere in Canada unless we want to pay even more in taxes or plead to our governments to eliminate the waste and put money into the actual priority areas. Today's federal budget is just as useless as ever from the Harper Conservative/Reform party.

    Topic: RE: NEED HELP
Wow Dale you have been through hell and back by the sounds of it. Guelph is the only clinic I have been to and they are great but not sure about the ones closer to you. I agree with Erica's comments she is knowledgeable and experienced, I on the other hand am only a few weeks post op.

Topic: RE: Having WLS and having children?
Everything I have been told is that WLS will help improve your chances of getting pregnant but that you should wait at least two years. I also understand that the pill does not work as well post WLS so an alternative method needs to be used.

Topic: RE: Monday morning weigh in.
    Happy Birthday Sue.
Celebrate what you have accomplished and the journey you have been through. Don't sweat the small stuff, if you are trying your best then it is what it is.

    Topic: RE: Update on Optifast
Great job keep up the good work and remember the end is in sight, so to speak, at least the beginning to a new end.

Topic: RE: OT - Really really rough week.....(Long but needed to share)

You have my condolences on your cousin's passing and my hope that it will get better. After such a difficult week, one can hope that the worst is behind you. Hope you are healing well from your surgery and remembering to take care of yourself, even when the world around you is in turmoil.

    Topic: RE: I'm home !!
Welcome to the bench Jyle. I hope you had a positive experience with Dr. Pereira-Hong. She was wonderful at the hospital and very thorough. Enjoy the ride.

    Topic: RE: optifast
I just went with plain Optifast and didn't mind the flavour at all. Sometimes a little ice but that was pretty rare. The chocolate was most definitely easier than the vanilla though so if you want to put something with it that could be a positive experience.

Topic: RE: Anyone ever have to postpose their surgery?!?
I go to the Guelph clinic and from what I understand you would not have to go to the back of the line but would be put on hold until you give the go ahead, but I cannot say that is the absolute policy. I know myself, my referral was sent in October 2009 and my daughter was born in January 2010. My first appointment was March 2010 and I went through the entire process including meeting the surgeon who then put things on hold because I needed to have my daughter weaned for at least a month prior to the go ahead to do the surgery. I had to call back when she was weaned and then my next appointment was scheduled with the surgeon and everything proceeded from there. I was disappointed but in the end it was better for my daughter and now I have had the surgery and it is better for all.

Topic: RE: For those who had sleep apnea
I have severe severe sleep apnea and while I have had WLS I haven't noticed a difference with my sleep apnea. My sleep apnea was complicated by weight but I also have a neck that was broken in five places and causes much of the problem including the weight gain I experienced before WLS. I understand that weight loss can help reduce and eliminate sleep apnea in some people though.

This is out there but how do you control the widgets when they go crazy on you. Am I alone in my frustration with some of the options on OH.
