2nd Consult w/PS -- advice on what questions to ask

At the OH conference in LA/Nov 08 I had consults w/the PS's in attendance.  Of the 5 I met, 2 of them were stand-outs who deeply impressed me with their results (photos) and bedside manner. After much reading and investigation in the ensuing months since the conference, I feel satisfied that both have excellent reputations in the local community, as well as great reviews here on OH, and that either one would be a great choice. (I am still looking around at other surgeons just to compare, but so far, I haven't found any others I like as much as these original two docs).

Both surgeon's suggested I come back for a 2nd consults (more in-depth) once I was closer to goal weight--these appointments are coming up soon. I have already verified the basic stuff--I know that they are board certified plastic surgeons, that they have had a lot of experience with post-massive weight loss plastics, etc).

I would like advice on the types of questions that I should ask them. There may be things that I haven't thought about to ask these surgeons, but that would really make a difference! So I'd like to give some thought to this now, and brainstorm with those who have gone before me!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

EDITED TO ADD: The producedures I am envisioning/considering:

Stage 1: LBL w/ inner thigh lift, butt aug
Stage 2: Breast lift (not sure if I will need aug) and armpit-scar-only brachioplasty

You didn't say what you are having done so it's a little difficult to be specific!  Always ask about risk and common complications of the surgeries you are contemplating.  We don't live in a perfect world and stuff happens - if you read this board long enough you will find out that there are lots of post surgical complications with many of these procedures.  After you get some clarity on the risk and complication factors then I would ask about what your results will look like.  This is real important.  Use his before and after book as a reference and then ask bluntly, "will my result be this good?"  Realizing that there are no guarantees you should come away with the confidence that excellent results are expected.  If he waffles, I would consider that a red flag.

Cost is a big factor for most of us.  You didn't mention this so I'm assuming it's not an issue.

Finally, I would shop around a bit more.  These surgeons who show up at the conferences are not all that the market has to offer.  My surgeon was neither an advertiser here or a bariactric specialist but (and you can judge for yourself by my photos on my profile) he did an excellent job.  I consulted with plastic surgeons who were famous, who were bariactric specialists and who were generalists and I went for the best one.

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.  Donna

Hi Donna,

Thanks for your reply.

Duh--can't believe I forgot to say what procedures I was condering. I have edited my original post and have added that information.  Silly me!

Of course, what I wind up getting is going to depend on how I look when I've lost a little more weight--hard for me to know what I am going to need. I have a sense that different surgeons are going to suggest slightly different things--I have already found that this is the case.

For instance, one of the surgeons suggests an inverted-T incision with the LBL, another does not. So I didn't want to lock myself in to anything.

Thanks again,

Cindy
